Fuel line

Hi, first off I'm new to the forums and I just bought a 1987 N/A with a bit of a problem. I need to know exatly how to replace the fuel line because its all rotted and leaking, but I have no idea where to start or what I should do. I have the Haynes and the factory manuals but they don't help much when it comes to simple things like this. I know its a really newbie question but I plan to do all the work on this car myself and I need to start somewhere right? Eventually I plan on learning how to do the big stuff like rebuilding the engine but I at least need to be able to start my car first. Theres also, that I just noticed recently, a coolant leak under the front right side of the car followed by the annoying buzzer when the keys in the ignition. I know that was kind of a vague discription of the coolant leak but any guesses on what it might be or what to check first? Anyways, I was also wondering what the other lines next to the fuel line were because they seemed a little rotted too.

Go to mazda and order a new hard line. Should be fairly cheap. I think there is only 2 or 3 10mm bolts holding that on. Its very straight forward. The coolant leak sounds like its coming from the heater core hoses, and the annoying buzzing would probably be from low coolant.

With out having a rx7 to look at, the bigger lines are for fuel (pick up and return lines) and one of those smaller lines goes to the fuel tank (its a vent) and the other to the rear brakes.

There are free, yes, FREE manuals available for download at iluvmyrx7.com. These manuals will have more information than you ever wanted to know about your rx7.

Thanks a lot, one quick question though, do I HAVE to order it from Mazda or can I go to a local automotive store and pick one up?

They might have one at some auto parts store. But youd probably have to wait for it longer. I bet those lines are very cheap from mazda anyways.... They generally have really fast shipping too. Parts usually come in from japan in 2-4 days.

Go to www.mazdaformance.com

They have stock parts for the best prices around. Cheaper than Mazdatrix.

Do you do any sort of racing?

Also, when you buy the fuel hose. Make sure it is fuel injection hose. This hose is designed to take the pressure a fuel injection system sees.

Ok, I just saw your picture. My god. Has that car been in salt all its life?

You can also fab your own hard lines. They sell different lengths at most autoparts stores and it is very easy to bend by hand.

Thanksfor the help, and all I know is the cars been sitting in a driveway for 2 years and besides the coolant leak, fuel leak, and hairline crack in the fuel tank, I think the cars in really good shape.

I know its frowned upon, but I just cut out the rusted part from the line and ran fuel injection hose with double hose clamps.

After 6 months of running it that way, theres absolutely no sign of wear on it ( though yes...I am aware its potentially very dangerous ).

One of these days I may replace the whole hard line with some braided SS hose...but until then, what I have works fine.
