Fuel leak fix for novice (with pics)

Ok. First off, let me apologize for the size of the pictures. It was hastily done because I need to get the car back on the road as quicly as possible. Here's my problem:

On cold mornings, after about 5 minutes of running, I smell gas in the car and in the engine compartment. I opened the hood and saw fuel dripping on the exhaust....so naturally I turned the car off. Now my problem is that I cant figure out where the gas is coming from (I havnt taken the upper intake off yet, a little nervous to try and do so). Im not sure what each of the pieces in that area are called so I labeled them with colored arrows, and Ill refer to them as "the blue arrow" Sorry guys, Im very novice at engine work.

Glossary (of what I know, lol):
Green Arrow - Fuel line to secondary injector rail
Blue Arrow(s) - Vaccum lines?
Red Arrow - loose bolt (to hold vaccum lines bracket secure?
Yellow Arrow - where fuel is seen RIGHT after starting engine. (the fuel ends up slowly leaking down onto the header heat shroud)

Ok, the fuel line that goes to the secondary fuel injector rail wont come off, so possibly its slightly cracked down under the upper intake (i cant tell because I havnt taken the upper intake off). But the fuel is first showing up on the blue arrow first so Im not sure about that. Is there a hole in the upper intake where the bracket bolt that holds the blue arrow secure? Could the fuel be leakin out of there because it would be after the secondary injectors? The hoses on the blue arrow's were brittle, cracked and broken when I tried to take them off so I need to replace them. I am really in the dark here because I dont know a lot about what Im doin here. So if you could help that would be great.

Thanks guys.

Aaron

Pull the upper intake off and jumper the fuel pump and look for the leak.

Well, from where it's located it looks like a seal on one of the secondary injectors is what's leaking, if it was the primaries it would be on the engine block itself, not on the intake. If you can get someone to start the car and look right at the injectors and see if you can see anything. It's either coming from the injector seals or the lines running to the fuel rail from what I can see.

what are the blue arrows pointed at? the fuel is getting on those and then leaking down from there.

and what do you mean jumper the fuel pump? how difficult is it to take the upper intake apart to get to where im lookin at? Is it something that me, bein a novice, could do? Thanks guys.

I'm willing to bet it's that fuel line, it looks like someone took the screw clamp and moved it upwards, and it looks like it's pretty deeply grooved/maybe even cut. Check that line. As for the vacuum lines, ugh, *thinks* Let me get back to you on that.

That was me moving the clamp out of the way for the pic...I tried to take off that hose and it was stuck on there. I pulled and pried and it wouldnt come off. If that hose is shot, im going to have to take the intake off to get to the other end right? Where does that hose go?

that is prolly where it is leaking. its kind of a pita to get the uim off, but has to be done. that is the secondary fuel rail line. mine was leaking from there. then i fixed that and it started leaking from the line coming off the primary fuel rail. so while you have the uim off, might as well replace both of the lines. i think it was 5/16 high pressure fuel hose that i used. and make sure the clamps are on there good.

there is a coolant line that runs down from the uim to the motor....it is a pita to get the spring clamp off. you will need some long needle nose pliers.

good luck to ya

how hard is this to do? take the upper intake manifold off so I can get to it? Is is possible that I could accidentally take something off that I wont have the special tools to put back together? Im just a little apprehensive of doing this cuz its my primary mode of transportation.

its not that hard. i did it in the parking garage out here at my college with simple craftsman tools. the only tricky part is the spring clamp on the coolant hose running down to the engine. other than using the needle nose pliers on that, you will only need a socket wrench, with mainly 12mm socket.

Good luck! I can't think of anywhere else for the fuel to be coming from, so you should have a better idea tomorrow with the intake off to see what's up.
