What did you do to determine that the thing is still good? I don't think a visual test will tell the whole story. My fuel gauge read 0 one day, and replacing the sender unit fixed it. Your situation could be different though.
Dittos to what the JPK said above.
Do this anyway. Take the plug off the fuel pump pigtail located on the aft side of the left rear strut tower. Find the Green/White wire in the rear harness plug half. Turn the key to ON. Then jumper the G/W wire to a known ground while watching the fuel gauge needle. It should rise up when you touch it to gnd, proving the sender in the tank is kaput.
Don't put a gnd on the G/W wire longer than to just see the needle move on up the gauge. IF you peg the needle out for any length of time, you could damage the gauge.
Replacing the sender is easy. Just remove the small screws that hold the pump in the tank............................oh, wait, you've already been in there. No, it's easy.

im going through the same problem right now. i just replaced the fuel pump and installed it. the pump works fine. however the gas guage does read the fuel thats in there.
maybe that floating fuel measuring stick is hitting something or is stuck. i'll have a look at it to see what really is going on. if all else fails i will try what was suggested above.
