On the firewall (under hood) directly in front of where the driver sits. It's the big black circular thing. The fuel filter runs along the driverside frame rail (under car).

It's easiest if you disconnect the fuel feed line from the engine first, then drop the filter down underneath to mess with it. Just be prepared to get gas everywhere, so try to keep it angled up.

If you're sitting in your car... its just about on the other side of where your left foot would be (below the car)

Thanks for the information.. Another Question how hard is it to turn a non-turbo in a turbo. I've been toying with the idea for a while.

Don't forget the low pressure filter (sock) at the base of the fuel pump. I put a new one in and it was fine for a month or so. My new one clogs up now and again, drove me nuts until someone here told me about the sock. Luckily they are cheap and still available from Mazda dealers. So I have to drop the tank, let it dry, then drop some chain in and shake it to loosen all the rust, or whatever it is, I bought a can of Redcote, once the tank interior is dry, dump this Redcote in and swish it about, apparently it will bond everything to the inside wall, lock up any loose rust.
A new aftermarket tank is not an option, I can't find one for my 88 vert at the local parts places, discontinued, or I'd buy one.
