fuel cut shouldnt shut off your engine. It should feel like your engine pauses, then kicks back in. That used to happen to me in 4th at around 5k and in 5th at around 5k. It feels like it stumbles, but shouldnt turn anything off. Just get a FCD and see what happens, cant hurt and youll need one anyways

Just so you know, fuel is cut to the rear rotor when you exceed 8.6psi boost because of intake and exhaust mods. A fuel cut defender (FCD) stops this by lying to the ECU about actual boost, but because of this they really only allow you to run 2-3psi more safely.

EDIT: We're presuming you actually have a turbo, but you don't mention this in either your post or your profile. Please give as much info as possible in your posts, and fill out the profile completely. It helps us help you. Thanks.

He has a 88 GXL. Does that help identify the type of RX-7?

Then it's not a turbo, so it's not fuel cut. Could be anything...

I'd get a analog volt/ohm meter and check out the tps for opens/shorts during its travel. Or get a digital meter and put the positive lead in the back of the TPS green/red wire, turn the key to ON, and run the tps thru its full travel slowly. Looking for opens or sudden changes in the output.

If during your 100 mph ordeal you over rev'd the engine, there is a cut at some high rpm, the figure I forget or never knew, but if rev'd to high it will cut out. That wouldn't explain the cruise cutout, though.

Its all a guessing game. Just got to eliminate the obvious first.

Most often the best thing you can do is duplicate the problem several times and put the pieces together from there.
