Open Intake Manifold Surgery

Okay, this weekend I will be repairing my Auxiliary ports (commonly referred to as 6 ports) on my 87 GXL n/a. I have the haynes manual, and various postings from this site to add tips to my venture. I would like to know if there is any other way to get them working without going through all the trouble of pulling everything off. For example, fuel additive, oil additive, what ever. I was considering trying this stuff at Pep Boys that is three parts, it was sold on infomercials a while back and it goes for like 50 bucks for the whole deal. They say it brings new life to your motor and cleans away carbon and junk. Input would be appreciated.

If they are stuck so u are not able to move them by hand or any tool from outside (after helping it with WD40 or something like that), u will have to pull whole thing off (TB, UIM, LIM)

My front actuator was stuck.
It turned out to be the actuator rod, the sleeve was OK.
It took penetrating oil and a lot of wiggling to pull the rod, but it could have been done without removing the LIM.
Anyway, try that first..

All of the above, but............just a little more detail, please.

On the 87 you shove in on what we'll call the actuator can, to open them. So have you taken the actuator can off (just two 10mm nutz and a C clip) and pressed inward on the shaft?? The shaft on the actuator can?? Does it go inward and spring back out??????

If not, rap it on a piece of Wood til it will press in and spring out.

Or do you mean the shaft that goes into the manifold will not turn??? Won't turn? Try spraying some Pro Line Super Lubricant directly at the base of the shaft and rotate it a touch, spray, rotate it a touch, spray, rotate it a touch, spray, rotate it a touch and on and on and on and on until it moves with you little finger.

Buy new gaskets prior to reinstallation. The smallest leak will make them disfunctional. Were only talking about 2-3 psi pressure, and you can't afford to lose one psi through a gasket leak. Once working they should keep working. My thought is that they stop working due to neglect and then build up carbon/gunk while just sitting there and freeze in place if not working for a long period.

I ordered all the necessary gaskets from mazdatrix, 5 in all. I will try the wiggling trick before I remove the Intake. I really dont want to do this, but If that is what it will take It will be done.

Ouch! Sorry, I meant just the two little bitty small miniscule gaskets that go between the actuators and the manifold. About a buck apiece.

I fixed the problem friday, sorry for not posting that. It ended up being lack of backpressure from new 2.5" exhaust. I found a mod on FC3S that fixed it, what a new and happy feeling I get

I also have pics, if any one wants to see I can email you pics a diagram and an actual pic. The mod cost me 18 and change, but if you have the tools, material was only a few bucks
