Fuel cutoff switch doesnt work !

hey guys ive got a 87TII and every once and a while i havto do the EGI fuse trick. but once i was at a busy intersection making a left turn and it couldnt get it to restart (it stalled while sitting in the middle of the intersection when i was waiting to turn) i had to go under the hood and pull it out and crank it. now that was embarrasing !!!!. Ive asked several people and they say get a switch and cut into the BLACK and white wire. so i did and it doesnt do **** ! just to see i unhooked it totaly so it was in two peices and the car was still runing !!! If anyone has any awnsers for me what happend and what i should do. I would really appreciate it ! thanks alot

KYLE

What I did was installed the switch to one of the wires that goes to the fuel pump on the left rear shock tower. I forgot which one I tapped into for the switch, but there's only 3 so ou should be able to figure out which one will disable the fuel pump. I just cut and replaced each one until I found one that killed the fuel pump.

You cut the blue wire on the l/h rear strut tower, for the switch.

You cut the wrong wire under the dash. Cur the THICK black wire with a white stripe. There are 5 wires on the gang plug, it is the middle of the 5, a THICK wire. I assure you, if you cut this wire the car will die. Install your switch on that wire and hook whatever you cut back up. You can also cut it at the fuel pump, like hailers said, but this saves you a long wire run 2 ways by doing it under the dash, it is the same wire. IF you go the the fuel pump plugin, and look on the car side of the harness(not the fuelpump side where the wire turns blue) you';ll see its a thick black and white wire, just like up front. Its the same wire.

What I did is cut the solid black wire (ground) and ran it to a switch up front. It works great. I ran mine from the wires underneath the hatch. Pull up your carpet in the back. Peel back the plastic surrounding the wires. Look for the solid black wire. Cut it. Now you need two wires to run to the switch. Good luck.
