Frustrated with my 90 GXL

OK, I'm new to this, but am out of options.

Story:

Bought a 90 GXL in decent condition.

Replace the cooling system, brakes and a few other items.

Did not feel like doing the clutch so I took it to a shop someone ref'd me to and the slammed it in with a hammer.

Next day, engine blew...white smoke for miles.

Piston Mechanic and myself dropped a rebuilt 13b in.

We did what appeared to be a pretty good job.

Can not get it to start, talked to Ken? in TN and he enlightend us to the oil in the plug trick. Thank you

OK, now it starts but will not idle on anything under 2k RPM. Massive Vacuum leak. Carb Cleaner by the injectors keeps it running.

Fought with it for a week, replaced injector seals and any hoses that looked bad.

Told my piston guy he could bail...he didn't even hesitate.

Took it to a Mazda guy, who replaced the things we missed. Piston Guy and non-mech(me) there were a few.

Mazda guy put in about 5 hours and then he bailed. He said he had one of these do this before and lost money because he never found the issue.

Mazda guy is good so I trust him. Only problem is it still does not run under 2k RPM

ANY GUESSES?

sounds like one of those god awful electrical problems. Theres a first year for Contour in my family that had an electrical problem that make the car run goofy and it took months to find what was wrong. i take it you have already messed around with the TPS. so it might be time to get a nice volt-meter and prob everything in hopes of finding a short or a sensor thats out of range.. A lot of machanics wont do this since it takes so much time (understatement) and if you dont have a heated garage, it takes 10x longer if its cold.
your going to need a wireing diagram and so on.

sounds like a really high mile car.

or you could just get a stand-alone engine management system...
