front suspension rattling, any ideas?

just a couple days ago i installed my set of used kei office coilovers and cusco front strut bar on my 1991 n/a and then yesterday i had new tires put on, everything was great, handles like a dream but just today i went down my grandparents really long gravel driveway and what sounded like the front driver side suspension started making a wierd metalic rattle sound with every bump, i pulled over, jacked it up and took the wheel off and jiggled anything that moves, everything seemed pretty tight but then again it was dark out, my spring moved a little bit when i pulled really hard on it but it was not under perssure so i figured it was ok, started riding again still did it so i stopped at my friends who has been working on cars pretty much his entire about like 40 years or so and he thinks that my steering rack is loose but i dont really hear the sound while i am driving when i turn the wheel back and forth, i'm going to jack it up tomorrow in the light and make sure everything is nice and tight but i think it will be, any help would be great.

either that or something binding.... check your sway bar links and attachment points while your under there

will it make the rattle/noise if the wheel is straight? turned left? turned right?

if it only makes the noise when it's turned one way or straight I would bank on a steering related bolt

edit: also check that your springs are seated properly...they could just be off their notches...then again I don't know those particular coilovers....they might be flat tops and bottoms on the springs

yea, my first guess was a loose bolt, by hand everything felt tight last night, we'll see about that one when i jack it up in about 10 minuites

it seemed to do it whichever way the wheel was turned, wasnt really paying much attention to which way the wheel was turned when it made it, definatly made the noise when it was going strait and turned one way but it was really late last night.

on these coilovers yes they are flat top and botoms so there are no notches that need to be lined up

and it did not sound like any rock in the suspension that i've ever hurd but i will look.

my friends thought it was steering cause when the car is stopped you can hear a very similar noise when you turn the wheel left to right about an inch or so but when i am driving down the road and i turn the wheel left to right and swerve i hear nothing unless i hit a bump.

I had a similar problem with mine, only it was on the passenger side. One of the motor mount nuts was loose, letting it slap around. Didn't hear it on/off throttle as much as I did just going over speed bumps and the like.

Probably isn't what you're hearing, but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway.

car is now jacked up, checked everything, made sure every bolt i could see was tight and they were, made sure everything on the coilovers was tight, everything seems to be tight, however on the driver side the brake caliper had a good ammount of play in it up, down, left, and right, bolts are tight but the center part moves and makes a very similar sound, not sure if that is what it is but it does not do it on the passanger side.

The Caliper or the rotor???

The caliber should only slide in and out, it should not move sideways at all. When you say the center part, do you mean the rotor??? if so, then your bearings are probably worn out or bad or the hub is very loose/bad.

no, definatly not the rotar, like on the brake caliper theres the part of it that bolts up to the suspension and then theres the part in the middle of it that the brake line goes into, it has some play in it and makes a similar rattle.
