Front rotors delemma help please lol

Alright I have tried everything so far. I map gassed the crap out of it, jammed something between the frame and rotor and turned, and sledged the crap out of it. This thing refuses to budge. Anyone have any idea's on how to remove the rotor? I'm going to say screw it and bring it to Sullivan tire next to my work and beg for a free removal lol

Brake rotor? Did you remove the wheel hub nut under the dust cap?

I put a bolt in the caliper mounting hole, and turned it to push the rotor off, had to back off and rotate, it took ******* forever but it eventually came off.

Driftmunkey: Now that im relaxing inside i feel dumb because im not 100% sure i did anymore. Going to check when i get up in the daylight. Only thing is I don't see how that will help as the rotor is only held on with 2 screws and then the nuts from the rims.... unless im somehow missing a concept lol even looking at the new rotor I cant see how that would be.


TehMonkay: OOO I like that idea, my buddy had said to jam something between the frame and the rotor and turn the wheel but the rotor spins too freely and would just spin whatever off

What?

Nut on the spindle holds the hub on the spindle. Then you have two screws going through the rotor into the hub. then the wheel goes on.

The first gen is the only rx-7 where you need to remove the spindle nut, to press the rotors on/off.

However you could take the hub to shop to press the rotor off, it's been done before.

Yea, you are right, Im tryin to split my brain between work and this lol.

It might be easier to remove it all and press it off like other monkey said.

I spray some pb blaster on the front and back mounting surfaces of the rotor and hit the sides of it with a hammer till it comes off. Patience pays off. BTW the rotors on my 7 were harder to get off than any other I've done and I've done a **** ton of brakes.

my front brakes were like that... ended up taking them to a shop to have them pressed off... they ended up splitting one of the discs in half...

the hub is pretty well stuck on the car as well or id take it to a shop going to try again later this week and just get rides to work atm lol....

2 more questions: my stud got stripped a little can i grind it smooth a couple threads down?

and if not were can i buy a stud for our car? lol my wrk doesnt carry it in anything but 20 piece boxes and thats only through commercial

ALRIGHTY!..STYX TO THE RESCUE!..First get a GRINDER..4 and a Half Inch Jobbie..with a Cutting DISC...Cut the ROTOR off..all the way around,on the Outer Part..Basically you are Removing the Rotor Area that HAD contact with the PADS..Once that Piece is off,you will be left with Part of the Rotor on the HUB..NOW,get a 2 POUND SLEDGE HAMMER,and Whack at the Outside of the Part that was cut..What you are Trying to do now,is to Whack Pieces of the Rotor Off,until you just have a Small Piece Left on the HUB,which should look like a SPACER(the flat area of the Rotor that the 5 wheel studs come out of.)..Once the Rotor is that "small"..it will come OFF with a Chisel,and a hammer.You just have to Keep working at it from the outside,where all the Pieces have been Chipped off..OH,and make sure that the SCREWS were Removed from the Rotor,that attach the Rotor TO the hub,or you are Really Doing **** For Nothing..I DID THIS METHOD..and IT WORKS,Like a CHARM!..(to hell with bringing it to a shop,they willl charge you 40 bucks apiece to remove them..the discs are 1.00 a piece!!!)..GOOD LUCK!..oh Studs are Cheap..like 2.00 a piece at Autozone..Put a Crappy Wheel stud on,and screw it down until the nut is almost On the Stud..and Whack at it,with the trusty 2 pound sledge..When you Go to Put it back on ..hit it into place,as far as you can,then get a wheel nut and Tighten it on,until it sits flush on the Inside of the HUB..Done!..FOOTNOTE: you have to do this method With the ROTOR and the HUB,removed from the Car!

The first time I replaced rotors on my car, I had the same issue. After beating on it for hours, I gave up and had it towed to a shop. They had to remove the hub and press the rotors off.

If you have access to a good torch, heat the rotors cherry red and then bash them off. The heat will break the rust seal. A MAP gas torch isn't going to do it. You need a hotter flame so we're talking about something with an oxygen tank.

Cutting the rotor off with a cutting wheel is another option as posted above. Just be careful not to cut into the hub.

You can also remove the large spindle nut and take the hub/rotor assembly to someone with a press.

To prevent this in the future, make sure the hub is TOTALLY clean before reassembly and coat it with anti-seize.

TehMonkay: your way worked absolutely perfect thank you very much ended up having to do it till it was about halfway then take the top bold off the strut let it hang and bang it slowly as it was spun
