Yup.

You might lose the EGR capability (I don't remember for sure), but it's certainly possible to build a perfectly good running motor from two blown ones.

And front - rear rotor housings dont matter? i am being told otherwise by the owner of the second engine i would like to buy. I need to build one engine from two with blown rear rotors (apex seals)

thanks

S5 has no EGR. you will be fine mixing and matching them however i would install the apex seals with the boot in the worn groove so some of the apex seals may have to be installed backwards according to some install videos.

(currently my S4 engine has the front rotor housing in the rear location and vice versa... don't tell the smog tech that since he passed the visual on my EGR... it passed without it functioning though.

didn't the front S5 turbo housing have the knock sensor threaded in????

That's the only difference between S5 rotor housings

otherwise, they're interchangeable

shouldn't matter whether the knock sensor is in the front or rear, in the S4 it was in the middle iron.

technicaly the housings are different but they can be used for either fron or rear.

If you had a series four n/a and were asking that question I'd say that if you rearrange the front to the rear or the rear to the front or use two front or two rear......you'll lose the passage from the acv to the PORT AIR holes in the rotor housing. Meaning you'd have a bit of a problem passing emissions because that (Port Air holes in the rotor housings) is where the ACV air goes mostly and especially at idle.

Series five might be different. Then think, why do you suppose they have designated different part numbers? I'll put it this way, I know why series four have different part numbers for the front and rear ROTOR housings.
