It should have dumped all your oil pressure and done a job on the engine bearings. If the pulley did not move outward I doubt it screwed the timing and theres a good chance the thrust bearings are still in place. See Mazdatrix faq for an interesting bit of insite on the thrust bearings. You can make a measurement at the front pulley to see if they have moved. Its in the factory manual and the Haynes manual. It'll be under engine assy. Follow the instructions for installation. The fsm recommends using a sealant upon installation

Uh, no, the key doesn't keep one of the Torrington needle bearings in place - the spacer does.  I've destroyed one motor cause the bearing popped off - don't ask...
