front mount stock IC?

What kind of work would it take to front mount the stock intercooler on a TII motor that I'm putting in my GXL? I'm trying to do this without much money so what do I have to do?

I wonder if it is cost effective once you factor the piping and adaption brackets into it ,verses a TII hood or convert a N/A hood with a scoop.

If you can bend the pipe yourself, then go for it. The stock TII IC is reasonably efficient, and in my experience, does a great job front mounted.

It shoudldn't do too bad in the front since it only heat soaks since it's on the damn engine.

I've seena thread with something like this.

They took the outer shield off it and did it FM style.

my friend is in the process of doing it. he is using 2 ic's though. he is splitting the pipe and running them in parallel. then joining the pipe back together after the ic's.

if he runs two and y's it he might have a pressure drop problem

There are advantages and disadvantages of both.

top- less pressure drop/better weight dist

front - cleans engine/no heat soak

there are others but i would research a bit to see if it's for you

I was going to do this a while back, but I found that the way the tubes come out of the endtanks on the stock IC makes it rather difficult to fit piping, and have it in an ideal place to get air. so I went with a stock MX-6 intercooler instead, which is actually a little bigger(about 1/4 inch thicker, and 1/2 in taller and wider), and the tubes on the end tanks were mounted so that it would be much easier to build tubing for it, and still mount it nicely.

but unfortunately, I got lazy, and my motor ended up losing compression before I did the install. and now I've got a nice big TrusT FMIC waiting patiently to be installed.

same years as the probe turbo. They were virtually the same car. Like 89-91 or 92 I believe.
