front cover coolant leak help?

so im pretty sure there is coolant leaking out of my front cover, it should just need a new gasket right? and how hard is it to replace it? its causing my idle to stay really high and its killing my gas.

There isn't any coolant in the front cover.

Check the bottom of the water pump, there is a "weep hole". If the pump is bad, coolant will leak out of that hole.

Also, check around the water pump housing where it mates to the front iron.

A coolant leak will not cause a high idle, or bad gas mileage. You've got another problem somewhere.

so it is for sure the water pump that is bad? because that is the only thing that could be leaking coolant right? how hard is it to replace the water pump also?

No, if it is leaking at the weep hole, then the water pump is shot. All other places of leakage do not denote a water pump failure.

Replacing the water pump isn't super easy, but it shouldn't be terribly hard. To give you a better idea of the procedure look in the FSM, Haynes, or do some searching.
