Friend pulled a 16.1(NA)

Thats pretty good right? All he has is an intake and his clutch/tranny is all fucked up. Very difficult to get it in gear. He said his best run he couldn't catch 3rd. I see people on here run 17s with full exhaust, etc. Hes about to go true-dual and maybe some N20.

That seems pretty good if he missed 3rd. Ive heard of some running around 15.7 completely stock. Also seen some run 17+ too

Ya I think he could get in the mid 15s with his clutch/tranny fixed. It really sucks. Sometimes I can just not get it in any gear unless the car is turned off. I bet I coulda got it in the 15s

See thats what I am talking about. This is basically stock(intake on an NA gives you next to nothing with out exhaust work done) and a truly fucked up tranny/clutch. I thought he did pretty good and his car is pretty strong.

One of the last times I went to the track and saw the F&F guys,I would say I didnt see one FC run in the 16s,They were high 17 even 18.Levi said he ran a high 14 (which I didnt see) I ran 15s with my FB on stock ports,15.3 / 15.9

Im going to bridge port it soon once I get time to hope to make it to the next DragWars.

Ryde _Or_Die Get your **** done so we can go,I want to beat up on some Hondas

The only time I took my 86' N/A to the strip I ran a 16.3. I wasn't really ready cuz they did't match me up with anyone, and I wasn't shifting fast enough. Plus it was my first and only time ever racing at the strip. I still haven't had a chance to go back. My bushings and spring are all f-ed up on the shifter, I have **** tires, and I am completely stock.

So the new go-fast mod for NA's is to leave it stock?

I got a 15.7 at 88mph out of mine when the only mod it had was a RB pipe + presilencer. That was with winter tires, easy shifting and still getting tire in the third gear Waiting for a set of new Kumho 712s and a few other bits until I try again. I'm sure I can get it down to 15.2-15.3 which is fairly good for an 86'.

well my 88 se with 152k miles did a 17.4 at best.
just a air filter on it.

My GTU I only ran once before exhaust. It did a 17.1 but I had a bad 60ft.I figure I can do a 16.8 now.
Not very impressive and it pisses me off.

Well that way you know the air pump is still "trying" to open the sixth ports, right? I wonder if low back pressure from open exhausts kills the torque enough to adversly affect the 1/4 mile times, enough to counter their high rpm gains? Anyone wanna take a guess?

All these guys in the 17's are in hot climates. Higher temperatures = less oxygen for a given air density, meaning less available power. All the guys in the low 16's are in colder climates.

My first time at the strip, about a month after I got my car I ran 16.4-16.8 on a bone stock '90 GTU. I was dissapointed and started looking for things wrong with my car. The previous owner had put the plugs from the leads on the trails.

When I went back, I ran a 16.0 with a granny launch (2.6 60ft).The car had a racingbeat header, pre-silencer, and an air filter. My times were still not great, so again I checked out my car, and only one 6port was opening.

These were my only two times at the drag strip, so basicly I suck at drag racing. not to be an *** but, you 17 second guys need a tune up, or driving lessons or somthing

Well I run 17's and My 60fts were 2.4 best. I know how to launch. That was in my 88 SE.

As for tune up. I have done plugs,wires,e-fan,removed a/c,all fluids changed. I can fell the ports actuating. It hasn't accured to me but maybe only one is opening up.

As for the hot climate. I did my 17.1 on my first run in the car since i bought it and it was late august(70-80`F).
I haven't run it late;y cause my second gear syncro is gone so I can't 5H1F7 (V)4|) Qu1(|< '/0 !!

Oh yeah.. If you plan to drag alot. Buy mazdatrix's racing diff mount ahead of time. After 10ish times down the strip in my 88SE it was beyond gone.

1.9 60ft=knowing how to launch. Does your motor have good compression? My runs were made on a 70 degree day also.

you guys realize that altitude affects your car too, for some i bet if you ran your car at sea level youd see some better numbers. my rex ran a hell of a lot better in houston when i got back from college in tucson. tucson is 3000ft i think and houston is 0ft. i dont have quarter mile numbers to back this up but i could definitly tell a difference.
