My friend just got a TII engine and tranny from a police car in Japan. Only problem is that its an auto tranny. Anyone know how strong this tranny is? Is it a built up regular auto? Don't tell me its a weak *** NA tranny, cause that would be retarded.

 

He should have bought the cop car too.

That ***** so much money. Thing about this engine, I'd assume its it great shape. Wouldn't you? I mean don't all police cars get regular tune-ups? Or am I just assuming too much from governments?

They get regular tune ups yes, but they usually also have an ungodly number of miles on them, which is why retired police cars and parts are usually cheap.

 

I want to see this car. I am curious as to if it is beefed up with some performance parts, that would be schweet. Hurry on them pics.

 

lots of turbo engines have auto's in japan. I don't think they are any better then an N/A. find a 5 sp

 

The FC hasn't been used as a police car in Japan for well over a decade, so it's safe to assume that engine is in no better shape than any other it's age. It's also very unlikely the engine is different from any other 13BT. The fact that it came from a cop car is interesting, but it doesn't make it anything special.

The autos in Japanese FC's is much stronger than the one used in US NA's. It's not a bad gearbox for its age, but it is still just an auto. Throw it away and get a 5-speed.

Fortunately for me, thats how my j-spec came as. In away I was glad that It came like this. The poor Tranny got the grunt of It more than the Motor Itself, providing the previous owner beat on It to begin with.

Ryde _Or_Die, this Is a first I've heard of this. Interesting. Let us know If anything more Is learned on this j-spec Police Motor that Is not within the norm.

Most cops drive the crap out of police cars... High performance, no bills to pay and no speed traps to worry about!!! trust me i know.

We used to have RX4s and 3s out here back in the 70s. All the older cops still talk about them as if they were Gods gift to the police force. They all were sold in auctions but odly enough, with 1.8 liter 4 cyl, instead of the rotaries. noone was able to fix them once they popped!

I owned once. Me and a friend made it a convertible... We really pimped it out haha. Sold it for a pretty penny too. I tried to buy it back now that i have a few spare rotary engines. They guy crashed it bad. I'm tracking down another ne that some old lady about 60 years old is driving.

To answer your Q Ruff Ryder. Most police veicles arent moddified. Rarely, and the ones that are are not sold to the public. Japan and Cyprus used to both be commonwealth... A lot of the systems i imagine are the same. just my opinion. It'd been a coolecters item if your friend coulda grabbed the car though

I was just thinking this engine should be in pretty good shape. Ragging on a rotary is kind of an oximoron (sp?). If they get regular oil changes they should be pretty fine, especially since this was an automatic I would think.

 

US cop cars have like a million miles of idle time on them.

They are tuned up alot because they are beaten.

 

Not true, i dunno about in Japan or whatever, but in the United States ALL police cars are modified. The new police interceptors come straight from the factory modified. They're all chipped, have tuned duals, and suspenion comparable to nascars. You can take 90 degree turns at 80 miles an hour in the crown victoria interceptors. I owned a retired one for a bit, and in another few months, im going to be a regular behind the wheel of one.

 

The point of my post above was that it would not have been in police care for over a decade. Who knows how it's been treated since then. By now I wouldn't expect it to be any better than another engine of similar age/miles.

Well, ive never tested it, but thats what they told us in driving school. Youd actually be amazed at how well they handle, especially for such a big car. P.S., im in the process of becoming a cop, thats where i got my info from.

 

exaggeration. if you want to take it literally, go test it. but make sure no one is around except a friend to take you to the hospital; just in ase.

 

Those Z28s are weighed down with more than 1000 extra pounds of police equipment. PLus the light bar at the top really messes with aerodynamics at speed. PLus they are all autos. Im not saying that they still wouldnt outrun your average car....but nothing Id be affraid of. Not that I'd run from the police...just saying
