Rotarygod, your theory assumes that only restrictions in front of the turbo affect it's response, which isn't true. Response is affected by all restrictions in the airstream. Moving it further away from the turbo is not going to make any difference either. You refer to the turbo's response, but really what we're talking about is how fast the airflow through the whole system accelerates, so the entire system must be considered. Since the AFM is still in the system, it still presents a restriction that affects both response and peak airflow. The two can't be seperated like you've done.

Your comparison with the TB mod is wrong too. The extra response this mod gives has very little to do with the fact that a restriction has been removed. The throttle plates that are removed are damped to slow their opening. There is a machanical damper (dashpot) on the throttles linkage specifically designed to this. This is to give a smoother transition as the secondary ports are opened. Removing this mechanism means the secondary ports start flowing the instant you floor the throttle, not after a small delay. This is where most of the improved throttle response comes from.
Removal of these plates and their shaft does free a small amount power too, as even a fully open throttle is a significant restriction.

ok this has nothing to do with the turbos and whatnot. i have an 86 n/a rexy. i recently put a stage 3 act clutch in it. if you r losing hp in your clutch, which most probably r, it makes all the difference in the world. mine car has 100k on her, and she will bark a third hardcore now. just my say on a fairly cheap upgrade for lost power

A "stage 3" huh? Do realize they don't sell clutches in stages?
