found a problem with my TII
I was having some problems with my car detonating and having a throbbing idle a few days back, threads describing the problems are here...

So today i checked under the hood (even though it's freezing out there), and I found a loose hose from the intake area. It went under the air pump and then had a metal nipple that went inside an intake hose. Then I fired the car up. It's real rough when it's cold, so I gave it a few revs and it still sounded different and didn't feel right, but smelled alot like gas, so I look under the hood and two of the bolts on the downpipe were halfway unthreaded. So once it warms up, I'm gonna go tighten them and run it till it's warm. Do you guys think the loose exhaust could've caused the throbbing idle, or am I just believing that so I don't have to think that my car's dead? I'm unsure cause i don't think that would've led to the detonation, so it might be something else.

Rotary Freak
My tII had a pretty large exhaust leak up near the turbo, my idle was fine.
Check all your intake hoses, especially the TID that goes from the airbox to the turbo. The turbo gets hot and hardens the ruber over time, the intake hose will crack.
Also check the small 1" hose (its like 4inches long) and runs from the top of the compressor side of the turbo to the idle control solenoid (BAC). Both these hoses were cracked on my tII.

got the idle taken care of, and the exhaust is still loose... I decided to take it for a run, came back and noticed the nuts were loosed again, so I was gonna finger tighten them.... 1 seared finger later, I realized I should let it cool down for my finger's(and the thread's) sake

yeah, well I just went back out with a nice square burn on my finger and tightened the now-cool nuts. It's MUCH better now. I cruised for a couple to warm it up and then got into second gear. I saw between 9-10 psi and it was alot better at idle than before. It still idles slightly rough and the radiator fan seems to be running alot, but I'll take care of those once I actually get the car home. One more exam tonight, and I'm on SPRING BREAK!
