FOund the electrical draw on my 88TII
SO I was looking on youtube on how to check for a draw on your vehicle. I was doing this because I have a focus SVT DD that kills alternators like crazy and they say check for a draw. Well i realized how easy it is to do and decided to check the rx7. Keep in mind i have one of those rx7's that will not hold a charge on the battery if it sits for 2-3 days.
HEre are video steps. Set multimeter to 20m, disconnect negative cable from battery(leave positive cable attached), put negative meter probe on battery negative terminal and meters positive probe on ground cable. If you have a draw, pull fuses till you see the draw drop on the multimeter. Which ever circuitry the fuse belongs to has the issue.
Video suggests 0.50 miliamps(meter set to 20m) is acceptable. MY focus read 0.03 which is real good, according to video.
I went to try the rx7 and it showed 4.XX-5.XX draw. ANd everytime i would make contact with multimeter probes on ground terminal and cable i could hear a relay clicking and my doors clicking. NO BUENO. I followed the clicking and it led me to the rear driver side under the antenna to a relay that read "door lock". I dont use electrical doors no more BC race car- so i disconnected the plug to the relay and now the draw is 0.50. I will look into eliminating this circuit if its easy enough.
Keep in mind this is the first step to finding the issue. HOw to go about it from here is unknown for me.
