This forum would be a lot more informative if it's members only answered questions they sure about the answer to, or at least say they are not totally sure when answering a question.

People are answering questions that they don't know the correct answer to, and as a result people are doing things to their cars that they really shouldn't unless they are trying to blow their motor.

I would agree with the above. When you begin to see different answers to the same question or problem it can be quite confusing. I am by no means a professional when it comes to auto repair, only trying to learn how to care for and maintain my car to the best of my ability. If I don't think I can fix it I take it to my mechanic.

What annoys me the most is the people who's answers are based on completely incorrect assumptions/guesses on how things work. Not just RX-7 specific things but huge gaps in basic automotive engineering knowledge.

This is sort of related to the forum. The resources tab on the front page doesn't work anymore. It should have all sorts of info links that people post in the forum! eg. That one with the intake tests. People wouldn't have to ask as many questions if the resource tab had the important info found in many posts.

I'll drink to that. I'm by no means a know it all but there are times when I think to myself "What an idiot." But then again I could have been one of those idiots that you are talking about. Sorry

Amen!!

If you don't own the car, don't have an OEM Mazda service manual to back up your answer, or haven't done the repair SUCCESSFULLY yourself, you have no business answering someone's question.

These models are all different, and you can really screw people up when you don't know EXACTLY what you are talking about.

I can't tell you how many times I have wanted to say "So and so's answer is total B.S.", but I don't because I don't want to start flame wars.

Later,
Doug

Talking I TOTALLY AGREE!!!!

I,myself am fairly new to the forum, and have had this problem with every post I put up!!!!! I either get the same answer 50 times over or 50 different answers to one question. This is a bad thing!!!!! Since I cant get my car started,I've posted quite a few times, narrowing things down a bit. But I cant seem to get a clear answer to anything, its always "well I think thats what it is" or "it might be this". Please people if you're not sure about something, dont post it until you are!!!! As stated before by someone in this thread,"some of us aren't mech.s,but we do all we can under the hood, when we dont know something,we turn to the people who do.And when they give us false info. it only hurts us and makes the situation worse, because, now on top of the original problem we have a new one because someone couldnt pull their head outta their *** long enough to think cleary and give us proper advice!!!!

If anyone disagrees w/me post it I'de like to see how others feel!!

The best thing about this forum is that a post is read many times and many replies are left. This allows the thread starter to gauge the responses and judge for his/herself what the best course of action is. It all comes down to qualifying the responses. For instance, if I posted a question and got two responses, one from "HAILERS" with an insane number of posts and one from "RicerzRulz69" with 8 posts, I know which answer I would trust.

Granted, there is a lot of BS out there in the replies, but there is also a lot of damn good information and knowledgable people. It is just a matter of figuring out who is right and who is wrong. Hell, I'm wrong all the time, but the only way I figure it out is if someone on here corrects me. I don't mean flames, I mean a simple "Redwood, you're not quite on the mark there" or something. THAT would make the forum a great place, if newbies could get treated with a little more respect and understanding and also treated the wise elders with respect and didn't try to contradict them.

End the flames, spread the love of 7's.

Good one Redwood. All we are trying to do is help each other. Nothing malicious. And plus, you never learn anything, unless you screw up sometimes. All of us do our VERY BEST to help each other out, not cause confusion. If someone makes a misinformed post, don't flame them, as they are merely mistaken. Insted, help them to learn the correct answer. "Let he amoung you who has not messed up, cast the first rotor."

And plus, no one knows EVERY correct answer, no matter how long you have been working on these things.

We are in the process of building a FAQ page for each generation that will contain alot of the most common questions. Its just taking alot of time.

Using the SEARCH function of the forum is probably the best way to research a topic. Most things have been asked 100 times already.

hmmm

take every answer with a grain of salt. Compare what you read on the forum with the manual. Think about it carefully before you work, esp if it involved hacking or cutting - can't glue it back!!

But I do appreciate the input...it is helpful most of the time!!
