Forgot throwout bearing!!! DUH!

Idiocracy reached a new height when i installed my engine.. for the 3rd time in 2 years.
I replaced the tranny, but didn't think to check to see if there was a throwout bearing on this used one. It had everything else included- switches, crossmember, even the slave cylinder.
I thought- boy- I really need to bleed the clutch.
Ya.
So now, after it's all complete, I have to pull the tranny and install the throwout bearing. (I installed the engine and tranny together as a unit)

Question... How far back on the dirveshaft will the tranny slide???? I'm hoping I can just unbolt the tranny from the engine (20 min tops), stick a wheeled jack under the bellhousing, and slide it back a few inches, lower the front of the tranny down, so it's angled enough to stick my hand in there to place the bearing.
It's a pain to pull my driveshaft because my custom exhaust has to come off.
Thoughts? Tips?

Yea i dont think that there is enough room to put the T/O bering in there because you would have to stick your hand pretty far in there to get to the fork.

Uuuuuuh Hate it when that happens! Well I think you know how to do it the long way and I don’t think there is a shorter way. You might be able to slide the tranny back about one inch and I don’t think that’s going to enough for the input shaft to clear the pressure plate. Hate to say it but its going to take you more than 20 min.!

Your going to have to pull down your exhuast.. YOu need at least 5 inches of clearnce.. I just finished swapping my tranny today.. whole process took about 2 days.. 5 hours a day... So to drop and put back up will take easly 3 hours.. you need to drop exhaust, take out clutch hydrolic.. shiter and drive shaft too bring it down. Go0d luck.

Over the years, I've become very good at tranny swaps. With air tools, and no lift, I could have a transmition on the ground in right around 45 minutes. However, when putting everything back together it usually takes me around 1 1/2 hours, because I like to make shure everything is in there right.

IMO, the biggest pain is removing all the drive line bolts.

Bah- 2 hours!
Yanked the driveshaft (flexhead ratchet comes in handy here), removed the x-member bolts, and slid the tranny back. The back stayed on top of the heat sheild, which was a nice help, then just pulled the front down enough to get my hand in and install the TO bearing.
I just manhandled it back into place and slid it together.
What a bitch... 2 wasted hours.

yeah just take off the 4 studs and nuts to the drive shaft...should only take a half hour to an hour to get everything off..you don't even need to take off the whole exhaust ...just pre cat to in front of the "Y" pipe...the take off the drive shaft...make sure you take the slave cylinder off before unbolting it...the nipple to the slave will prevent you from pulling it allthe way out...ubdo everything else... starter, speedometer cable any wires and grounds then drop

I guess since I have custom exhuast my Y pipe go in the way of taking the drive shaft off.

I just had to take off a hanger to slide the driveshaft up between the exhaust and car... that's all. 2 hours, done!
