Question Font Lower control Arm bushing removal help...

I am having a real hard time getting the two bushings out. I've burned off all the rubber on the biggest one, but I can't get the metal ring part off.

The bushing that is in the slot, I can't even get it to budge. I also tried to burn it out, but it isn't doing much.

(What I used to burn them was a combination of brake cleaner and matches.)

Could I have an explanation of how to remove these without using a press?

Any and all help is appreciated.

For the front bushing use a couple of sockets and a long through bolt. One socket should fit just inside the control arm, the other should brace against it. Tighten the bolt and you'll slowly push the bushing out.
For the rear bushing you'll want to carefully dremel the metal ring (cut-off wheel). Make a few cuts along the length so its easier to pry apart / snap off.

Got it! thanks MazDan and Hypertek, I used a dremel for the metal bushing. I made a wiggly line and it cracked open like a sunflower seed. I then carefully used a slide puller to pull it off. For the bushing in the closed round part, I found a round chisel, and a hammer and just wailed at it until it fell out.

So I got my new bushings on, but the larger one of the two will not line up with the holes on the car. There is no way for me to push it into alignment and screw in the bolts; plus, the only way for it to scrunch all the way to the wall is if I set it under the frame and drop the car onto it. How did you guys get it?

The U shaped one is a pain to line up. I had the Prothane one and you just have to wiggle it and beat it until you can get the bolts to line up.

It worked! I got it off that way. Now the problem is getting it back on. The smaller one fits perfectly, but the bigger one is off just by a very small amount. I can get one bolt in, but it makes the other side uneven.

i trimmed some meat on the bushing since it was pushing the u bracket rearward past the holes.. and cheated a lil bit by slotting the holes in the bracket. All is good.
