FMIC with rear facing end tanks....who has one??
FMIC with rear facing end tanks....who has one??
I have a fully stripped engine bay running standalone, and with the s5 front bumper I want a intercooler that fills up the front bumper and has the end tanks facing towards the motor for a straight short shot into the engine bay.

Well there is a shop here that has been making custom intercooler/ oil coolers for race cars for quite some time.
They gave me the option of them making one on my car for material cost only ~170 bucks.
I like the idea of running short charge pipes and not having to squeeze the pipes past the bumper like I did on my turbo honda.
Its a deal I can pass up and I wanted to see if there where a few setups to go by.
BTW I dont mind hacking up my sheetmetal where the rad bolts on.

thank you, but I was just more curious in pics to see if people chose to have the outlets on the top or bottom.
This guy is making it for cost so I can display his sticker on my window at track events and leave business cards on the car as well.
I know what I want but its always good to see other peoples rendition of it before I go at it. It seems a lot of 3rd gens go this route more than the second gens.

It's about fitment size of intercooler. There are 2 common areas that people USUALLY mount their fmic's. In place of the bumper reinforcement bar or in front of the a/c condensor.
I don't see what benefit your looking for except cost maybe. With your idea the air enters and exits the core via two 90 degree sharp bends. It is much more advantageous to use wide radius bends for better flow. Read up Corky Bell's Maximum Flow, though this concept isnt hard to understand.

I do see what you are saying, but air is compressable, and unless there is a dramic change in the cross sectional area of that particular piece of pipe, than over all flow is not effected.
Same concept with mandrel bends, has nothing to do with the curve radius as it does with the abiltity to make a bend keeping the same inner diameter or cross sectional area of the pipe.
(This was in reffering to the bends not necissarily an exhaust system)
I chose this idea so I wouldnt have to hack up my expensive new bumper, keep the total couplers to 4 (2 each side) and it looks clean if I do say so!

didnt some people have problems with the npr end tanks blocking the flow to the radiatior?
I will just have to mock one up, and will post pics when it is done. I am thinking of 2.5" piping for the charge pipes.
