none... hehe sound familiar.
860 for a greddy kit is about par, I made a custom intercooler kit out of a core, and had tanks welded and did alum piping and it came to about 700 dollars, but that was just for supplies and paying people for their time... and not myself.. so the 860 for a greddy kit... is a steal because when you factor in time spent I am sure the custom kit is more expensive..

Mason, Isn't it nice when someone answers your questions with an answer and the reason why that answer exists?

:-P Thank you.

I was looking at FMIC kits earlier and saw that they were going for about 1,100 or 1,200... I forgot which and got worried. I'm guessing that a kit would be easier and not too much more expensive...

And... I'm doing a S4 TII engine in my S5 GTU. Are intercoolers universal between S4 and S5's or am I going to end up fabricating a custom one anyways.

no they are not universal between S4 and S5 some fabing and modifying is required for the kits to fit between series... but they do fit... man I am saying this alot tonight... but do a search for the Greddy Kit and install into an S4 car and you will find a pretty good thread about it.

Custom... I made most of it myself.. 575 with the IC being the most expensive part at $300 ( i sent the end tank design to a guy and he fabricated the tanks and wleded them to a 20X8X3 Modine I.F. core).

Kits are a rip off. If you shop around you can usually find some wicked deals, remember buying used is not always a bad thing and can cut costs big time. So do your homework and look around I can almost guarantee you can do a full FMIC setup much cheaper then a greddy or hks kit.

I have $395.00 in mine + 185 for greddy type RS BOV. I did all work my self. Items are tig welded. I have 3in polished ALUM pipes the whol way I went to midas and had them make me two 2in to 3in pipe so I can fit the stock 2in turbo and intake inlets to my 3in pipe. I had the intercooler made for me. The cold side had to be welded all up and then cut for clamps to be able to remove to work on car. The HOT side I got all with couplers. This setup was not EASY with 3in pipe jesus! Banging head against wall I did not think that one through. I forgot dimenshions for my intercooler but it was as big as I could get without removing anything like the AC stuff under there and so on. If you realy need I can look it up for you.

I dont think some of the ebay ones are bad but be carefull.

Id like to see you build a good quality kit with the finish and fitment of the Greddy kit for much less than $900. If you have access to a mandrel bender, and do all the work yourself, then maybe. Still a good new core is ~350+ easy, then add the piping, then the time spent fitting and fabricating. You buy a kit, with instructions, and have it installed in a few hours, with everything you need. Remember, time= money. Your time spent fabricating all your own pipes, and trying to get it all mounted and to fit right, adds up.
