Smile FMIC just got

i just got my FMIC i bought off ebay.. they said it was off of a saab.. but its huge, and in good shape.. only doubts i have is that its too skinny but.. maybe not.. just wanted to share with you all.. i paid 30$ total.
it may not be the best.. but its not broken that i can tell and for 30$ wooo.. one thing weird is .. it does have oil in it or something.. when i stick my hand in the inlets theres oil.. how would i go about cleaning that?

The oil in the IC is for PCV (positive crankcase ventilation), just get some mean green or some other type of chemical and swish it around in there numberous times. It will all come out eventually.

It's not supposed to be, but after alot of wear/tear oil will get pulled threw the crank ventilation system and into the IC.

RX-7's also have it, but I believe it is on the other side of the TB if I'm not mistaken (I haven't had a rotary in a wile )

Wide and tall is better than thick. The inlet and outlet look a bit small, though. It will probably work pretty well for street/drag use on an engine that is otherwise somewhat close to stock specs.

Use the Search function. Search for "intercooler(spacebar)oil" in titles, and you will find many posts asking the same question.

You may have a bit of difficulty getting that to fit due to the width. Make sure you test fit the intercooler before buying the plumbing. The plumbing is going to cost about 10X what you paid for the intercooler, which means you want to do it right the first time if possible. The distance between the frame rails is somewhere around 26" at its closest point. Fortunately, your intercooler is narrow at the bottom.

My mama always said, "Pretty is as pretty does", and pretty costs a lot, weighs a ton due to nasty cast end tanks, and refuses to make public her thermal efficiency and pressure drop numbers.

OK, the inlet and outlet looked smaller in the picture. That should be fine for what you are running. Hopefully the intercooler has enough efficiency to help avoid detonation at 10psi. Be careful.

it certainly makes it easier to route piping w/o the ac or PS

Maybe its off a newer Volvo. The stereotypical Volvo intercooler that everyone talks about is all black and has different end tanks. Also the inlet and outlet in this picture looks like its 2 inches high like a cylinder. The Volvo ones arent as tall. The Volvo intercooler also looks taller than that one.

Just pour some gas into the IC and swish it around. Thats what Ive always done if I came across an IC with oil in it...

A volvo IC is taller than that. I'm gonna be putting one in my car, and I have to leen it forward/back, and it is still only like 1/4 inch from the hood, and sticking out under the car just a hair.

Also the end tanks on a volvo don't go up like that one does (on the inlet/outlet pipes). And I'll have to go measure mine, but it is either a 2.5/3 inch inlet/outlet.

And the volvo one is very efficent and will hold over 20 PSI, seeing as how ther 2 don't look much different I would say they are pretty much the same.

im boosting 10psi with the stock IC wich is smaller than this one.. should i be worried about detonation with a bigger one? if its hooked it right it should be way more efficient right? maybe im missing something.

You should put it in behind the radiator! It should be in front of the radiator. If you don't it will heat soak, and will raise your intake tempeture. So if anything you want to move your radiator back toward the engine. But you will gain all the room needed if you remove the AC system, and relocate your oil cooler. (just move it a little bit)
