Of coarce there is going to be more lag, theres alot more tubing to fill up with pressure before it gets to your TB.

yeah, I too have found there is a slight bit more lag using a FMIC, you learn too get used to it.

yes thats why FMIC's are very questionable for everyday driving with smaller turbos

you'll get used to it, dont worry

... as well as a lot more intercooler internal volume to pressurize, assuming that the FMIC is larger than the stock IC.

Additionally, all that extra tubing (and possibly the IC itself) is going to create more of a pressure drop, which means that the turbo needs to spool faster to make the same boost at the manifold. It takes time for the turbo to spool faster, which could also be part of the problem.

Assume the following -
1) Original setup was a small SMIC
2) New setup is a large FMIC
3) You still measure boost at the UIM

Question -
1) There is now more of a pressure drop, right?
2) So if you want the same boost at your UIM, the turbo has to work harder, right? (I.E. shorter turbo life)

right.....

I don't know your tubing route, but you gotta keep it simple and straight...Any bends will start the LAG process and make things worse as you go.

1fastII has the right idea for routing, and mine is the same as his, but you gotta get rid of alot of stuff to do it this way too... The best thing you could do is find a different TB elbow cuz the stock ones aren't real great...
I had a FMIC on a stock turbo at onetime and I didn't like it at all... Thats the point I decided to do things right and buy a real turbo and a real FMIC, etc..... I've been at that point so I feel your pain.... Brad

Damn so its prob a bad idea to get a FMIC for stock turbo's? What about the higher boost pressures some ppl are running like 12-14psi. I would think that with the larger volume of cooling the FMIC gives you it would outweigh any disadvantages a FMIC could have. No?

I just wanna make sure -
running with a FMIC and same boost will kill your turbo's quicker?
I'm worried about turbo life.
