I had spearco assembly 2-247... $595 from them, measures 20x7.8x3.5 core size. I would suggest running both inlet and outlet straight up like in the second pic, and just cut a hole out inbetween the headlight and the radiator... This is the intercooler setup that ChrisK is selling in the for sale section.

Re: Volvo IC

Brian,

I have one of those myself and was planning to do just that. The difference was that I intended to keep the radiator in stock location, remove al the A/C stuff, and notch the radiator support to allow mounting of the IC between the bumper support and the radiator core support.

Did you try that at all?

How did you support the radiator in its current location? I assume home-made brackets.

How does it perform? I have heard some say that it increases lag because of the immense distance the air now has to travel.

Is the oil cooler still in its stock location? Seems as though it would have a lot less flow to it, possibly causing the oil to overheat. Any problems?

I have a real nice Trust kit I ordered on its way, the core measures something like 28x12x3 using 3" aluminium piping. It was a great price for $1000 add should work really good, ill post pics then.

1FastT2,
Where did you order your intercooler kit from and is it a direct bolt in kit or does it require cutting or any other mods?

I like the size of the IC!!! Did that IC come out of a 740??
Did you try to mount the IC in front of the cross member??
Because, I think that the radiator sitting on top of the IC would create a problem....

Well at first, it was in the stock location, but than i re did my ic piping for better flow and moved the oil cooler to in front of the radiator above that large round bar in the front... then i cut a hole out in my bumper and my temps dropped alot! I was happy with that setup for a while.

I ordered it through my local Greddy(Trust) dealer which had to pull some strings with his rep to get it. Im not sure it is legal in the states because you have to remove your inner front bumper to mount it. It is a kit for the FC though. It does require some cutting and does require you to relocate the battery so its not an easy process but im sure it will be worth it.

I don't care if it is legal, I want one. You think you can hook up one of your fellow rx7 buddies. Is this the new kit that I've been hearing about and enters on the left and exits on the right?

This ic is the one off the big npr trucks and not the smaller npr one. I have installed the smaller npr one in an fc also and can sell you the pipes welded and mandrel bent for both installs. i would suggest if you are going to get the smaller npr ic, cut the pipes and get them rewelded for a much cleaner looking install. it is not necessary, but looks shitty if you don't. the big one has no rewelding to do anywhere and is a much better install. Some things have to be reinstalled elsewhere and some have to be totally removed.

Sure, if you really want one im sure I can get another. I have had mine on order for like 3 months so far so its not going to be quick. Its coming on a boat from Japan or something since the box is pretty big. I did see the kit in person and it is very nicely made.

i'll measure for exact demensions. but its 3 inches thick, slightly wider than the radiator, and goes from the top of the radiator support to where its pushing down on the undertray. i have it slightly angled so i could get the tray bolted to the bumper.

1fastt2,
That is a badass intercooler setup! Do you have a shot of the piping on top of the engine? I'm curious how it tackles our backwards throttle body inlet... I was dead set on getting a custom Spearco setup, but after seeing that, I may have to reconsider... and only $1000?

I got to have one! That looks nice as hell, do you think you can hook me up with a deal on one too. wow 3 months is a long time did they give you an idea of how much longer it will be? Where will you relocate the battery to? i guess i can wait 3 months it will probably take me 3 months to complete the haltech install anyway, I cant wait until it gets here!! 1FastT2 are you installing the haltech yourself? I always try to to all the work on my own car but this kinda intimidates me a little bit. I will try it myself but if i still dont have it running by the time my winter break is over i will send it to Sevenspeed and let George work his magic with it.

Heres another pic of the piping. I have a call in to the shop that I am getting mine through. The price is going to be a little more than the $1000 I mentioned before, hopefully not by much.

87turboII: I will be installing the Haltech myself along with the new motor trans and turbo I got. They tell me the intercooler shouldn't be too much longer but who knows.
