go get a 4lb hammer from home depot and take a block of wood and place the wood on the flywheel and hit the wood witht the hammer and i'm thinking there is a locking piece of metal i don't know
hit the edge with a hammer, like a mini-sledge. DO NOT HIT THE FRICTION AREA, YOU WILL DENT IT
I went through your exact problem, and even broke the flywheel puller. then hit it with a hammer and it came off in about 5 seconds.

The first time I took mine off with a rubber mallet in a few hits. The second time, it didn't work so easily. It was an engine from a auto-tranny car that I was dropping in my car. I wailed on the damn flexplate with a heavy hammer until my hands hurt from the vibrations. I took a break then tried it again, and still nothing. So I gave up and put my flywheel onto the counterweight after I removed the flexplate.
The thing that really sucks is that the engine just died this morning so I'm going to have to tear it down this week. I might be investing in a flywheel puller after all.....

get a prybar and stick it behind the flywheel and put pressure on the back of it. then take a hammer and wack the front of it at 90 degree intervals until it comes off. dont be a bitch and hit hard. took me 2 good wacks witha mallet.
take a buddy. pry on each side.(left and right) with a pry bar. put the nut on to cover the threads and then smack the nut with a good sized mallet.
a couple good smacks and it will come right off. then take the nut back off and catch the flywheel.
the nut helps protect the threads on the eshaft and catches the flywheel!
