to be more technical then 'the shake' the counterweight is there to oppose the weight of the rotors and create a balanced rotating assembly. (front counterweight, rotors, rear counterweight)

You are fine with a used counterweight, just be sure you get the correct series counterweight for your motor.

just in case

right now you just have a flywheel that bolts to the engine

with an after market application you will need to get the counterweight off of an automatic transmission of the same series, which will bolt to the engine and then the flywheel will bolt to the counterweight.
