Flywheel questions

I just bought a light weight steel flywheel from a friend it has 200 miles on it before he wrecked the vehicle so its in very good condition. i just want to know if i have to replace the counter weight on the rear of the engine with a light weight steel flywheel like a light weight alluminum flywheel.

I was just going to use the weight that is on it stock. Will it not bolt up to the stock flywheel bolt holes?

The stock flywheel has a built in counter-weight. The only aftermarket flywheel with a built in counterweight is racing beat I believe. Otherwise you need to bolt on the correct series automatic counterweight.

Stock the counterweight is cast into the flywheel so you need to use an automatic counterweight from the correct series engine.

If your friend's engine was also a S4, you can just buy his counterweight and use it, assuming he had the correct one on his engine.

you can't attach the aftermarket flywheel to the engine without a counterweight.

it's impossible to do.

have you even looked at the flywheel/back of the engine?

^ As he said.

You can run the car with no flywheel or clutch but I get the feeling like it wont be any fun.

Check again.

From Ebay Page: NOTE: Flywheel requires counter weight which can be purchase separately or together

F1 Stage 3 is garbage I believe, don't throw $400 down the tubes.

Find someone localy whos done an auto to 5 spd swap, they will usually give you the auto tranny for free and might have the counter weight along with it

If you can't find one used, just buy a new one here: http://www.mazdatrix.com/flywheel.htm
It's at the very bottom of the page

The automatic transmission counterweight was a seperate piece, the manual transmission had it built in.

If you change the flywheel to an aftermarket lightweight flywheel you need to bolt on the automatic transmission counterweight.

If you change the clutch only and not the flywheel then you do not need the automatic counterweight.

so i need too change the whole tranny , thats what ure saying "The automatic transmission counterweight was a seperate piece, the manual transmission had it built in." meaning its built in and it cant be taken out, and if it CAN be taken out then i dont need the automatic tranny counterweight,... what do i put in the auto tranny counterweight just too take it out again and then put in my flywheel upgrade?
...basically...the counterweight on the manual transmission isnt changeable.....

He meant built into the flywheel not the tranny itself

IF you are changing your FLYWHEEL you will need the automatic counterweight which was separate in those cars. If youre not changing your flywheel dont worry

An automatic flywheel wont work, its designed for an automatic transmission.

You need the COUNTERWEIGHT that is a SEPARATE PIECE from the Auto Flywheel to attach to the Aftermarket Manual Trans Flywheel in order to bolt it onto the car.

AAAHHHHH! So i need too bolt the auto tranny counterweight on the ACT flywheel itself? So there isnt 2 flywheels then? So i can use a stock counterweight with an upgraded clutch?

Correct, just be sure to use the same series counterweight as your motor.
