Red face Flywheel Endplay?

how much play should their be after the flywheel nut is in? i got liltle to nothing about an eighth of an inch. is that too tight? i used the racing beat stopper an flywheel nut but it said turn it until teh nut stop movign it i think i might o fgave it 370 to 375 pounds i can see about 1 thread and a half after the nut is on.. i did forget the blue locktide but i can just turn the engine facing up and go around the 1 thread and a half so the locktide runs inside the nut and the thread. anyways guys should i unlock it and get the play to about a quarter of an inch.? or should i be set and good to go?

there should be no play, the flywheel sits on a taper fit of the e-shaft. Any play is most likely due to the e-shaft having play. To fix that i have no idea.

are you sure the flywheel is seated corrected and that it is not hung up on the eccentric shaft key? i did that by accident and torque the flywheel down. Needless to say i destroyed that little key when i noticed that the flywheel nut was not that far down the threads.

If your pulling and pushing on the flywheel, and the play is an eighth inch, and the eccentric shaft is moving an eigth inch......thats what is called, no good.

The play in the eccentric shaft is something like .002 to .0025 if memory serves. See the FSM online at http://www.iluvmyrx7.com the ENGINE section.

Actually I was wrong. The 90 manual says .0016 to .0026 is nominal and the max is .0035. Yours is off way too much. But then I'm assuming I read right and that the flywheel and the eccentric shaft are moving as one, not the flywheel slopping on a static eccentric shaft. Who knows.

If the flywheel is moving on the e-Shaft...not good at all! You have assembled the key incorrectly and it will have to be removed...try again.
On the other hand, if its the e-Shaft play you are seeing, then the needle thrust bearings are most likely installed wrong. Read the FSM, as the end play in the e-Shaft is critical. (FSM Pages 1-63 to 1-65)
Note that one of the spacers is adjustable (you have to buy thicker/thinner ones from Mazda after you measure your assemblies actual end play, and calculate the correct thickness)
I would hazzard a guess, that at 1/8" play, something is ammiss in your assembly. The "adjustment" available is only a few thou., 12 thousandths of an inch max.
If you dont get it right, the rotors will be rubbing back and forth on the housings. You will loose all kinds of oil, compression, and probably destroy the engine. Try again, Dave

****12 thousandths of an inch max**** No. Its .0035 max. The .012 will kill the engine in a hurry.
