On a similar note (and sorry fot the hyjack), I was wondering about the possibility of turing down a stock flywheel to shave off a few pounds. Would I have to do anything about a counterweight?

13.9 lbs is not too light to seriously affect driveability. That doesn't happen until you get down around 9lbs with those aluminum flywheels.

As for the stock flywheel, the counter weight is cast into it. I don't know how it would affect the balance to try and shave some weight off of it. You probably wouldn't get enough off of it to get it anywhere near the weight of an after market flywheel. I personally would spend the extra $$$

You definitly need a counter wieght. Off a S5 automatic to be exact. I have the ACT prolite and stop and go is a total pain in the *** but its worth it on the stretches.

A light weight flywheel makes stop and go driving annoying. Revs drop really quickly and because there is very little mass on the flywheel clutch ingagement is not the smoothest.

Many companies make a "street" (17lbs) and "race" (9lbs) version flywheel for a reason.

^^^ yes there is instead of several small bolts, its one large 54mm/2 1-8" nut that hold the flywheel on and an impact is pretty much needed if you want to take it off. and then gettin g the flywheel off you going to have to beat the crap outta the wheel to get it off
