fluctuating boost

Installed an autometer boost gauge today (STOCK ONE IS ABSOLUTE GARBAGE@!!!@95!#% shows 2 lbs of boost when there's 7.5, and shows 8 pounds of boost when there's 5!!!) ... but sometimes, the boost fluctuates. For instance. I'm driving along... WOT in 1st... hit 5 pounds peak. Next stop light, WOT in first, hit 7 pounds peak. Another weird thing i noticed...

First time i hit 3rd gear after installing the boost gauge... it went and stayed at 7.5 and started dropping off boost at 6000rpm... next time i hit 3rd, it went to 7.5, then back to 6, then 7.5, then back to 6... and kept doing this while accelerating. And you could hear the turbo go WRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrRRRRRRR R. So something is making it fluctuate, whether its the dumbass ECU, or the dumbass stock boost controller. Either way, i'm going to try to install an MBC, set it once at 8PSI and leave it the frig alone til i get some fuel mods.

How does that sound? Any suggestions?

What year is your car? Guessing since you said 'dumbass stock boost controller" you have a s5. And that would be the problem. Turboxs makes a decent MBC for cheap. Just remember to disable the stock boost controller.

I had that boost fluctuation problem on my TII as well, went away when I got a new clutch. Just an idea.

Ent, that description narrows it down to a slipping clutch -- not the case in my car, i can tell when the clutch slips

dr0x, so you mean this is a common issue with the stock boost controller? Yes, it's an s5. So I'll just replace the boost controller.

Quick question, where is it, and in order to bypass it, do I just remove the vacuum lines off the stock dealy and plug them into the new MBC?
