neither. your car is neither an Impala or Americam Muscle car. Corksport has got you covered. Or Apexi GTspec

I saw a Cherry Bomb almost last a week on a FC...

And I didn't think Flowmaster even made a muffler that would stand up to the temps on a non turbo 13B.

ya you need an exhaust made specificly for a rotory or it will just burn up and sound like hell in less than a month, especially cherry bombs

Rotary exhaust will either burn all the fiberglass in the Cherry Bomb or blow all the welds out the Flowmater.  Both SUCK on an RX-7.

if you want cheap and on the loud side , go with the corksport exhaust, very well made, sounds decent.

I have also had a Thrust glasspack on my car for the past 7-8 months and its still holding up. Might be alittle louder than when I first got it, but its only $20 to replace. The paint will melt off though in the first few minutes.

Don't expect Flowmasters or cherry bombs to make your car sound like a V8 either, thats not going to happen.

You guys should go cut up those fiberglass packed mufflers to see if they are still stuffed...

You can get away with bombs only if you meet both the following conditions:
1) Way at the back where the exhaust is cooler
2) With the stock cats or good pre-silencers in the middle.

Check the links in my sig below.
The sound clip was made about 1 year after they were installed.
I had that setup about 2 years before I sold the NA.

I've had a Flowmaster 50 series on my car for over a year now, ~17,000 miles and some extremely abusive track days. No problems.

It may be that they don't stand up, but people cleary exagerate their lack of lifespan. Most people make it sound like they last a month if you're lucky..

A "charry" bomb, huh?

If the HP Racing muffler qualifies as "cherry bomb mufflers", then I'm getting dual cherry bombs. We'll see how it turns out.

I can't disagree more with the cherry bomb but the Flowmaster will last on a rotary engine. I know of two 2nd Gen ITS RX-7's that are on their 3rd season of racing. That includes a couple of 4 hour endurance races each year. I looked at the exhaust two days ago and it still looks good and sounds the same as when I first heard them 3 years ago. The run a long primary header that collects just before the muffler. Muffler is located in the stock position on the right side.

And on a side note they make good power with that setup and don't have a problem with meeting sound.

Flames aint gonna help this guy, but straight facts might.
EG:
I ran a header to straight pipe to bombs.
It was WAY too loud, & the glass melted in less than a month.
I installed two big silencers & two new bombs (it was full dual).
It worked just right.

any muffler that you cannot see straight through
ie. Flowmaster is a restriction. How in hell do you expect to make power when the gasses have to go through a ****** maze? GTSpec ~$550
Corksport $289
Random Note: My buddy had a GTSpec and i could stick my entire arm up to the shoulder in there. ZERO restriction.
It was badass

Not that I'm trying to stick up for flowmaster (I'm aware of their faults and limitations), but you're missing something here. Typically the lower the restriction, the louder it is going to be. (that's not a linear correlation, but I think you can see where I'm trying to go with this) Great you can stick your arm through the GTSpec, does it reduce the sound volume?

FYI: "ie." is used for a specific instance of something where as "eg." is use for an example. As we know a "******* maze" muffler is not be unique to the flowmaster brand.

Even mufflers that you can see straight through have some restriction from the turbulance, most straight through mufflers have a prefforated core wrapped in fiberglass to absorb some sound. Flowmasters will hold up and flow more than enough, hell most of em are made for much larger engines. I've never heard a flowmaster on an rx-7 but i am quite familier with them and i think a 40 series would sound pretty good on it kinda deep too but i'd go with a RB presilencer or a high flow cat otherwise it might sound a bit tinny

I'll cut my old one open when ever I replace it and report the details. Mine BTw is where the stock main cat is located between the header and y-pipe.

i had cherry bombs on my na..with no diffusers and a 3" all aluminum exhaust..2.5" alum. y pipe. everyone, me included, thought it sounded great. it was, however, louder than all the jacked up trucks in my redneck town, and i did get pulled over for it once "man that things loud as can be"-the cop

so..as long as you are ok with loud.cherry bombs are good..they sounded great..
