Floods when you give it to much gas...
I'm looking at buying an rx7. The guy who owns it now says that it runs strong but when you give it to much gas, it floods out. Whats the deal with that. He says that the air valves are dirty... but i'm not sure what that is. this will be my second rx7 and from working on my last one, I don't remember anything about air valves. unless he thinks its the idle air control valve. I am thinking it might the AFM or something, but i haven't gone to look at the car yet. Just wondering what the experts here think so i wont spend the whole time trying to figure it out... at least narrow it down for me... Here's what he says about the car.
"Mazda RX-7 109,000 miles needs a little work ,paint, tires, little motor work the air valves are dirty but runs good... etc"

How do you know it is flooding when you add throttle? Sounds equally likely it could be going lean... you could find out with a monitor lamp check (one led, two wires, two male spade crimp connectors, one current limiting resistor). Connect to the center upper and center lower of the six pins on the test connector; upper is +12v, lower is the lamp circuit, goes low (on) when ECU sees rich mixture, high (off) when it sees lean.
I don't know what 'air valves' he is talking about. If it is the 5th and 6th ports, they should have no effect until you get to about 3800 rpm.
Trouble codes?

Non-functional aux. ports can't cause an engine to flood. Nothing noticeable will happen until you fix them and go "oh, that's what it was supposed to feel like". It could be many things, but guessing from the owner's description of the problem is probably not going to help much.

What are the chances it could be the AFM? I mean that's what regulates the amount of gas and air mixture. Its a totally stock car so its running off its factory specs....
Or... maybe the engine's blown and running on one rotor. still cranks but no real acceleration even when flooring it. just a worst case possibility. hope it's not for your sake.

Yea, that would suck! The owner says that its drivable... You know what, I'm not even sure he knows
what he's saying. If I go check it out I'm gonna do a compression test to see how the engine is... I hope its
Ok cause I really want another rx7.
