Fixing up the exhaust... quick questions.

I'm shopping around right now and thinking of fixing at least the cat-back portion of my exhaust. It doesn't hang evenly, and I dno't like the whole style. Too loud for me.

It's off an 87 GXL, so that's all 2.5" piping, right? I'm also wondering if the S5 and S4 exhausts are pretty much interchangable.

While I'm at it, how much do you think just the cat-back portion would run me, and how much could I sell the old ones for?

Thanks for any advice.

Oh yeah, here's what it looks like now:

I'm pretty happy with the OE stuff. I've taken out a FC with the stock piping on it and it sounded just fine to me and looked nice with the chromed tips.

Don't know about the rest of it, but for the "hangs uneven" part of it, just get some safety wire or equivalent and "help" the donuts out a little, if they're sagging a little too much...

Drop the $598 on a RB cat back. Your *** should hurt just about as much as mine right now......

It better be worth it .

But seriously, is it a header- silencer (or cat)- then catback?

Try buying all new rubber hangers for the exhaust so one wont sag more than another. I just did this over the weekend.

I already tried that and the aircraft cable idea, but it's uneven because the cans weren't welded on straight. The other side just ended up hitting the bumper when I tried raising the left.

How hard to you think it would be to get under there and just bend the left pipe?

Bend the actual pipe or bend the hangers?

I think the actual pipe needs to be bent. When you try and position the can correctly, the other side moves out of whack, and as it is right now cabled up, the joint between the cat and the y-pipe isn't sitting straight.

You can't really see it in the pick, but the left side also is skewed to the left a little, so it's not coming straight out horizontally.

cat backs for rx7's are ****** amazingly expensive... but when i had this problem on my 88 base i just made my own dp/mp/y-pipe and ran it all back to stock (cloggy) mufflers. It's much lighter, trust me!
