First S5! Gonna get to know it.

I just purchase my first S5 '90 GXL RX-7..I was pretty stoked...except the car doesnt run of course. Black on Black Leather. 112K original miles. To the fun stuff, here's what Im looking at.

I'm told the car needs a TPS in order to get it start up. And run. If this is true remains to be seen. The car has no TPS at all currently. I imagine that an S4 TPS is not even an option for this car? And also, If there is no TPS at all would the car not even crank up at all? I havent had a chance to crank it yet because I gotta get a battery for it tonight. So anywho, any help would be greatly appreciated to point me in the right direction at least.

Very good tips. I dont worry about the motor compression entirely when I buy them because if it does turn out that the motor is shot...I will scrap the car down, and I do take that into account when before I purchase the car though. I cant seem to find an S5 TPS locally here though, bummer.

Okie dokie. Here's where I am at. So I put in a new battery and to my surprise the car cranked up, BUT it wont stay running I basically have to stand on the gas to keep it from dying and at that when I stand on the gas The car barely revs over 2K....like it just bounces up and down all the way up to 2K and when I pull off the gas it tries to stay running on it's own but dies. On a side note, what is sad is that over the dozen RX-7s I've owned that is the closest I've ever had to a running car, lol. Anyway, So I was able to stand on gas and get it drive around the parking lot at least. No smoke, did not smell anything burning, and though I feel there is a chance the motor might be toast, what are some sure fire things I can do to test the car where it is at? And from my descriptions what do yall think could POSSIBLY be an issue that I can handle myself in the parking lot?
