Talking First Car Buy...88 Rx7 NA...any tips?

Hey guys, done tons of research on many cars over the last few years...this is the one...1988 MAZDA RX7, impeccable condition, snrf, pw, ac, radio cd player, runs like new, 135k miles, $2,300 neg-thats the ad. The listed price for that(even though its still the original engine)...is 2500...so ill try to get it to 1800 or something but 2300 is already fine. Any specific thing i should look for...im gonna check tread wear, hidden odometer switches...paint messups/secret fixes(etc), interior...obviously test drive...any other tips i should know? Thanks ahead...can't wait to be a part of the 7 family...

Check the engine seals, Take it to a rotary specialist if you have the ability/time, have them look it over.

Sounds like a nice find. Do a compression test if you can. Drive it, take it to like 6k and let off and watch for smoke out the exhaust.

also, ask the driver if they have ever had there FC overheat. if he says yes there could be some damage done to the engine, and perhaps he/she never took care of it. If you over heat and FC it ***** them up. Cooling is a huge issue for rotary engines, even more so than standard cylender engines. (always get your car checked out before you buy it. Im sure you know.. but .. you would be surprised how many people dont do it.)

Hopefully that should do it. Anything im mising...definately let me know! Thanks again.

go test drive it without him in it...take it a few blocks away and redline it for about 20 minutes...come back with a shitty engiune and say i love it but the engine isnt good then buy it for 800 bucks...then do your t2 swap....

The days when you could find an "impeccable", fully functional FC for $2500 ended about when this thread was begun...15 years ago.
Normal attrition, cash for clunkers and the drift phenomenon have thinned the herd drastically.

Yeah. Unfortunately I’ve come to realize how difficult it it is to find something at least half way decent and around that price. I’ve been through classified for a about 3 months. There are some gems out there. Deffinitly few and far between. I have faith though one will pop up soon that isn’t too far and I can make the drive.
Thanks for reaching out friends. Hope I didn’t strike a nerve bringing up “a 15 year old thread.” I know things like that can really bother people in the forums-u-verse. I’ve been around quite a few picky ones unfortunately. You think you’re going to get some helpful advice or some good conversation but all you get is some jerk who wants attention, complaining about something irrelevant. Thanks again

No harm in reviving an old thread if it helps someone. You won't get flamed too much around here for bringing back an old thread.
