Fire Fire
i was out driving today and i smelt somthing burning. i poped my hood and the wiring harness was on fire so i blew it out and looked at the damage. Im pretty sure the ACV shorted out cause the wire to the top conector was burned right out. and all the conectors by the altanator are all melted. the car still runs fine for now and isnt shorting out anymore. the acv is now unpluged from the harness, but i dont know if i should even start it with the acv not hooked up. its going to be dam near imposible to get a new harness for a lil while so i might just try to rebuild the wires the best i can.
so i just want to know if its ok to just leave the acv in non working mode for a while. and what will a new harness run me??

Well, I have no ACV on my car. Runs just fine. Emissions are pretty bad, but it runs. And, before I remove it, the wires were shot, so it wasn't working anyway.
Give it a shot. What do you mean by the connectors by the alternator?

My wires burned in the exact same place. It turned out that the cooling system filler cap right above those wires started to leak, and the coolant spilled onto the wires and caused them to short. A new cap solved the problem.
