Finally - My first RX-7

I see another guy is posting about his first 7, well I thought I'd add my own.

I have been a member of this forum for a while and many times have been looking at buying a 7, everytime I've gone to buy one, something has gone wrong and I haven't got it. In February my 98 Mirage got written off (rear ended at 60k/h while stopped at lights).

I signed up to import one in July, but it's taken a while, I was told about 6 weeks but everything that can go wrong has gone wrong, lol, I must be destined not to own one of these machines :P

Anywho, this Friday I finally get my baby: A 1988 RX-7 GT-R Turbo with 80,000kms, a wide bodykit on it. Manual, only mods are the bodykit, extractors and an exhaust, just the way I wanted it (oh, and a turbo timer).

The road has been long, I've waited 3 months or so, the front bar has been smashed getting it off the boat and almost wrecked again getting it on the transport truck to me from where it is, it's costed me an assload of money in customs fees and it got sent to the wrong place so it's costing me more in transport than I thought. But through all of this, I've stuck with it and on Friday, it pays off

On a side note, the importer was so impressed after driving my 7 (he's never driven or imported a rotary before) he's buying an FD for himself. lol. He had no idea that they could pull as hard as they do, even stock! he owns a supra currently.. poor guy :P

Anyway, I will post pictures for anyone that wants them when I get the car, I'm getting the bar fixed when it gets here by a panelbeater well known for his bodykit work, I've been to him before, always great work.

Anywho, enough ranting from me, I'm too excited about my new car :P It won't be being modded *cough*.. well at least not for the forseeable future, gotta pay it off first and it is my daily so it needs to stay unmodded at least for the moment.

Congratulations, it sounds like a great car. The modified exhaust may cause a slight overboost which will make the engine management system go into fuel cut mode. The turbo timer is unnecessary due to the modern water-cooled turbo, but it doesn't hurt anything. I am sure that the forum members would like to see pictures of your car.

The FD is a totally different car. It will be funny if he doesn't like it as much as your car.

Haha

I thought pics were sposed to be kept to the specific pics thread :P

A turbo timer comes with it, you say unnecessary but I have a habit of just turning off a car since I normally drive a NA :P whether or not water cooling helps, I want to know I'm running it to cool it down for a minute so I know the turbo will last longer, also in my opinion it means the engine will be in better nick since the previous owner has obviously used a turbo timer :P

I can post pics if you want but I was going to save posting pics until after I get the front bar fixed since it has a bigass crack in it atm :<

Driving the car for one to two minutes off boost counts as a cool-down. It would be very uncommon for a street car to be raced at high boost levels and then immediately slam on the brakes into a parking spot. Most urban environments have a speed-reducing transition prior to parking, such as a parking lot, residential road, or slow city street. Many turbocharged RX-7's still work just fine today after being driven for 20 years with no turbo timer. The purpose for the turbo timer is to help protect crappy turbos that are not water cooled. The turbo in your car is one of the more advanced turbos of its era.

No, it doesn't work that way. Since you are new here, you don't realize that the RX-7 community is interested in the nuts and bolts of the car, not to be confused with some of the other car communities in which stickers and nice paint jobs are considered upgrades. People here are going to want to see pictures of a J-Spec RX-7 in all its glory, especially since it has the body kit. Heck, a lot of people would like to see the crack, too. I know it's strange, but you will get used to it.

GT-R had no LSD, so I would upgrade that first.

Ok, for those that wanted them, here are the pics!

Before you look at them, let me make some notes:

1) Yes, I know about the cracked bumper. Don't remind me, same with the skirt and gutter rash on the wheels, this can all be fixed :P

2) Yes I know. The fender flares aren't moulded in, again, fixable.

3) Yes. It's a sexy JDM freshly imported to Aus, envy me :P

Nice buy, I to recently felt the joy and pleasure of picking up a 7 TII this week. That other post was me. I'm also stock, so theres nothing to worry about.

Thats some straight up BS on having to pay more shipping charges, because they delivered the car to the wrong spot! Thats not f'in right, it's there fault. Didnt even happen to me and it pisses me off.

Good job on converting a supra guy to another rx7 guy. Haha. I know that means less 7's for us but that also means one less piston motor *** kisser. Enjoy the 7!
