Finally! It's broken...

Well, after 18 years of abuse (4 with me!) and a grand total of 276,xxx miles my original S4 5-speed transmission finally decided to take a dump. Unfourtunatly it took the clutch, pressure plate, T/O bearing and Pilot bearing too!!

Somehow yesterday evening while driving home on a rather well known road i decided to do a little spirited driving.... not really banging through the gears just easy transitions ect..ect.. Well, my input shaft bearing basically fell out, input shaft snapped and well the rest is history..

Pushing nearly 200 flywheel hp the transmission has finally taken it's last spin. Yayyyyy Turbo II stuff can finally go in.

My 87 N/A has about 210K miles on the tranny and it hasn't given out yet...even after lots of 5K clutch dumps and plenty spirited driving.

I know my N/A tranny has over 217, with no known problems.. I just replaced the fluid about 400 miles ago, and it runs like a champ

Rest in peace, you excellent tranny you.

I like your outlook on it too. Most people would be "dude! My car's dead! Noooo!" and instead you are pretty much "hmmm...turbo...."

Well, funny thing is that we've had this turbo II drivetrain stuff laying around the shop for some several months. I never jumped on the deal because my transmission always worked perfect other than having a bunch of bearing and syncro noise. This evening i will find some time to get the car on the lift, remove the transmission and hopefully get some pictures up here for your guys. The pressure plate punctured a 4" gash in the bellhousing of the transmission!, input shaft is snapped, clutch disc is shattered. uhhhhh, just more fuel for the *money* pit.

It'll all work out in the end.

No man, unfourtunatly we're saving the rest of our TII drivetrain stuff for our Rotary Miata conversions. I would hook it up if i could but we've got 3 conversions to complete.

By the way were located in Florida.
