Thumbs up Finally installed my TID mod !!!!!

Well, after fiddling with the TID for more than 1 month, I decided it was time to actually put it on my Rex...

Because I couldnt find a decent reducer, and the prices for the silicone hoses here in Greece is ridiculous, I just bought about half meter of 6cm, 7cm and 8cm heavy duty rubber hoses, a 45-degree angled PVC tube, connected them all together with clamps, opened two holes for the two emissions lines, and put it on.

I also open-air vented my stock BOV with a relief valve and a silencer, and installed that too.

Results: absolutely rock solid idle at 800rpm (almost had forgotten what a rock solid idle feels like ), and, up to 3rd, almost 3-4 psi increase in boost

Granted, the stock TID was badly cracked at the turbo end, but I didnt really expect to hit almost 0,5 bar at 2nd gear Didnt have time to check the car (3rd, 4th, 5th), but I fully expect to hit 0,7bar

As for the BOV, with the silencer on, its actually quiter than stock, and the sound is almost like that of an airplane shutting down its engines. With the silencer off, its "pssssss", "pssssss" till the next kingdom come

Only problem is, I cannt find a decent way to make the TID clear -completely- the airpump pulley. I tried to hold it with a zip-tie and a piece of wire, but it rubbed just a bit (shaved off 0,5mm of the 45 degree angle). Now I have it tied down with a bigger piece of wire, and I'll see about making some kind of brace.

All in all, an awesome mod. I suggest anyone who hasnt got one, to try and make one today Stock TID really sucks...

PS: Sorry, no pics available, cause I dont have a dig. camera (yet). I'll see when I can get my hands on a 7650 or the new Panasonic GD87, and post shitloads of pics of my Rex....

TID=Turbo Inlet Duct

Its the plastic funnel connecting the AFM (Air Flow Meter) to the turbo, and to which the BOV and two emissions fittings connect to.

The stock TID is a horendous twin-90-degree design (in order to go around the airpump), which is a HUGE restriction. Make yourself a nice custom TID, and watch your TII gain at least 1-2 psi

I know man. Your motor was blown 3 weeks ago.

edit: OK he said his TID was badly cracked at the turbo b4. That could mimick a blown engine.

I think the cheapest route is to buy one of the intakes off ebay. Most of them come with one.

The HKS is very nice. It smooths out the transition for the round filter to the square inlet on the AFM. I think K2RD sells them.

OK, for the guys who didnt follow my thread to the very end, it finally turned out to be a really bad case of flooding. Trying to restrict the turbo, I re-installed the stock filterbox, but I had placed all its bolts inside the box, and when I put it on I forgot one bolt in there

Well, after 20 minutes of driving, the turbo finally sucked the bolt in (it was wedged in the filter), which got caught in the AFM, and caused to go wide-open. The injectors started throwing gas at the engine, which of course resulted in a VERY badly flooded engine. The symptoms were exactly like those of a blown engine, thats why I thought I had blown the engine. After I tested the compression, I understood what a stupid thing I had done. 4 new plugs later, engine was just fine....

Anyway, back to our issue, the TID mod is absolutely essential to anyone, even those who have brand new stock TIDs. The stock design is absolutely awfull, and a nice custom straight TID will allow the turbo to "breathe" much, much better. I couldnt hear more clearly the turbo spooling (as I have seen in other posts), but the results in the boost level are amazing

Go out and make one yourself today....
