I many have said this and many have told me but, BE CAREFUL!!!!!!

I have 4 550s, rewired t2 fuel pump and running 10psi boost on an S5 turbo motor and ive heard detonation around 10psi / 6krpm. Im really surprised you arent hearing it since youre leaning it out still. I wont push my car hard anymore untill i get at least teh walbro in. then go 680s and safc.

I've heard it a few times...
I doubt I'm leaning out....
I have 4 550s, a TII pump, and an S-AFC, set about 10% rich...
I have only heard it when I have a heavy passenger.
The timing is backed off about 3-4 degrees (kills power around 1K rpms though!)
I've richened it up to the point where I don't hear any detonation.. so it should be OK.
The stock o2 sensor is useless, it's all over the place!

Bad news though... I have a weak apex seal on my rear rotor, it's been a little low for quite a while, but lately its been getting worse, compression is down to about 30/30/95.
(95 being where both rotors are at stock max when I got the 3mm seals) The front is fine.
It still runs fine, but the idle is getting a tad lumpy, and I can notice a little loss of low end power.
I'm going to have to yank it and replace that seal, probably in the spring.
I might replace the rotors with lower compression S4 N/A ones.... but I'd like to keep my 3mm seals on these rotors... we'll see when the engine is apart. Hopefully the housing isn't scored either..

Damn that sucks about your apex seal, was the motor 100% before the turbo?

Naw, there was always a little blip on the one seal, almost right since the rebuild 2 years ago.... (might have been my 1 kilometer break in period (heheheh) but not much off... like 95/90/90 compression.
The difference was so minute I never thought anything about it.. but I guess it was weak, so the boost and a few pings took it out.
It's probably just cracked or something, since it still has some compression. It's not stuck.. I've soaked it in ATF overnight, and no difference. I just hope the housing is OK. (Should be, since I'm still getting one full compression pulse)

Heh, sorry about your car. I'm planning on putting a turbo on my gxl but I wanted to know why you thought the 550's would be enough. Just about everything I've read on TII's had upgraded secondaries, so wouldn't the higher compression of the NA rotors need more fuel due to that?

I'm still sleepy so I might not be thinking right.

Well, I think the 4 550's should be adequate. I DO have an S-AFC too. (Making the pump the limiting factor)
My mods, from a turbo perspective, aren't that extensive.
If you consider my car a TII, the mods (only requiring extra fuel are listed- I have tons others of course) are as follows.

No emmisions controls
TID mod/cone filter
2 1/4" catback
No main cat
Streetport

OK- that's a mildly modded TII
The advantage I have, is that there is no fuel cut in the ECU, allowing 10psi of boost.
ALso, of course, is the higher compression, which is the real boost of power over a standard TII. 10psi on my car might make 230 hp at the wheels, where a standard TII (stock turbo of course) with my mods might be more like 200 rwhp. To bad about that whole detonation thing...

But anyways, back on topic...
In a stock car, I don't think the injectors see more than a 50-60% duty cycle max.
I'm pretty sure that I could boost my fuel output by 30% or more with the S-AFC before the fuel pump couldn't keep up anymore, and I've heard that the stock pump (with rewire) is good to at least 250hp minimum.
That's right about where I am.
When the engine is rebuilt, I'm definatly getting a fuel pressure gauge, and putting my wideband in.
