Talking Finally decided to get exhaust!!!!

Hello all,

Well i finally decided to put an exhaust on my 89 GTU, but i'm still confused as to which one. Which will give me the most gains???

Can you guys please post some pics, and give some rough estimates as to how much the exhaust costs???

Thanks!!!!

You can do what I am doing and make that exhaust setup for virtually half the price. Get the header from them, get the mufflers you want, & get presilencers if you want to. PM me if you have any questions, I am in the process of doing this setup now.

Yeah my previous owner did that - machine shop made. Just don't use glasspacks like he did - they suck SOOO much.

Ya I will have everything once I find some mufflers. I want some that are somewhere between 3" & 4". Preferrably 3.5". The only ones I found were the Apex'i N1 & I think the 90mm tip ones are the dual tips on each side. Just looking to spend $180 or less for each one. Let me know if you guys know where I can get some. Oh, ya, I want 2.5" inlets as well, or pretty close.

The Racing beat is a little small and thats not even the problem. They cost $260 each. If I settle for a little smaller look I don't want to have to pay almost twice the amount. If they were $150 I would have them already. Anything else? Does GReddy or HKS sell universal mufflers anywhere?

www.speedandstyle.com sells good universal fit mufflers. order a Pacesetter header from Jcwhitney sport compact.com they are good prices. it wont last long if u drive it in the salt. that header is mild steel, and will rust out in no time flat if u dont take care of it. BUT,

install Header if u like, then

id suggest you keep something on ur car that REsembles a catalytic convert, just for John Q Lawman. that doesnt mean it has to WORK tho...hehe :lildevil:

so, mount your header/ manifold--->hollow Pre-cat----> 2.25" pipe bent up at Muffler shop----> universal fit stainless stell muffler of your choice.

id get the Apex N1, 5Zigen fireball, or HKS hiper. they are all N1 style mufflers, good sound, and save you alot of weight over other mufflers. when your lookin for speed, nothing is more cost effective than shaving weight.

I am not sure where you people are from but I have never seen or heard of anyone getting pulled over because of exhaust smoke or from having a loud exhaust around here. I don't worry at all about the police here. And we don't have emissions testing anymore so its all good. I already ordered my RB header, just looking for mufflers & saving for the presilencers.

yeah, this is kinda the same thing i'm planning on doing.i think i'm gonna just get the disasembled hearder from mazdatrix, and some pipe,w/2 presilencers and tie'em into my rp50mm catback that i have now...the way they are made, the y-section is very short,it comes out of the cat, splits up and only goes about 1 foot before its bolted to the rear section,so i can just pull the y out and have duals,my big concern, however,is noise.even right now,the 50mm rp system, with highflow cat,is very loud inside..a real bad resonate sound.so,unless the tunning changes,it'il be real loud with only presilencers...so i'm looking for some different mufflers myself.i wonder how the arospeed bombs work?they've got that removable silencer, anybody tryed them out?anyway,i'm sure something will work.is the hks hyper pretty quiet?later

I am looking into getting the HKS Hyper myself. Either that or the A'pexi N1 90mm tip. Not sure which one yet. I found them for just under $200 each, find them cheaper anywhere by chance? I am sort of leaning towards the Hyper though.

make sure that you either get a muffler that has a tip that will clear your rear apron, or mount the muffler so that it sticks out past the apron. if you dont, you will get the exhaust sucked back inside your car due to the turbulent air pocket behind your moving car.

my car has that problem, and you can smell the rancid exhaust when your driving w/ the heater on. even with all the windows closed.

the Hiper and Fireball dont have really long tips on them, but the N1 does. so does the Dunk. just some personal experience for ya.

btw, my exhaust is INSANLEY loud. the only thing on the street that is louder, would be a crotch rocket. you could hear both a crotch rocket and my car from clear across town.

chris

Edit: when you are forced to make a decision between 2 identical mufflers (or any part that goes on your car) choose the lighter one. remember, every 10 lbs you can shave from you car, is like gaining 1 HP. some of you lard asses might consider a diet hehe
