Question fiberglass muffler

can someone clear this up for me? i thought fiberglass packed mufflers would burn out quick on a TII, that a steel wool packed (or something like that) shoulod be used for longer lasting... so i guess Dynomax and some other mufflers would burn out sooner since they're fiberglass packed?

or is it something else (a presilencer?) that will burn out faster? i'm in search a a muffler replacement and this is getting me confused...

Yes fiberglass mufflers burn out faster (or so I've heard from everyone).

Mine still muffles. Not too loud either, but I still have one catalytic converter.

Fiberglass won't last as long versus steel wool or even "ceramic wool".
For mufflers, fiberglass might last long enough (couple years) as the heat is not too bad up front.&nbsp Forget trying to use a fiberglass muffler for a pre-silencer - it will only last a month.

For rear mufflers, they're fine. But if you plan to use them in front in place of the cats, they won't last more than a few hours (as Ted said).

My fiberglass packed rear mufflers have been fine for 3 years, but I still run a cat. We will find out what really happens in the spring when I go full 3" and eliminate the cat and resonator.

Crap, can't edit...

That should be REAR, not FRONT - or it gets confusing.

I believe all major brands use steel wool. Such as APEX, HKS, GReddy, Blitz, etc. If you are getting an off-brand just ask before purchasing.
