Fiberglass Hood?

I'm looking into doing some weight reduction stuff to my car and was curious if anyone made a normal looking fiberglass hood for a NA. CF is cost prohibitive and I've heard that aluminum hoods dent really easily. They are also pretty hard to find in decent shape. If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated. My car is an S5 if that makes a difference.

Doesn't fiberglass shatter (or whatever it does) easily? The aluminum hood on my 86 SE doesn't have a single dent in it.

fiberglass is not going to 'shatter' unless a large enough force is applied on it. this force is large enough that a metal hood would be damaged also.

and although aluminum hoods don't dent "easily", it is a lot more than a steel hood...

Guess I underestimated fiberglass. I didn't really mean shatter, I just couldn't think of a better word.

fc3s.org used to sell fiberglass hoods, but now it looks like all they sell is CF. I think thier fiberglass hoods were only 50 or $100 cheaper than the CF ones anyway. Here's a link to thier current hoods and a bunch of other CF and fiberglass stuff.

Thats the problem, all I see ever are TII hoods and thats not what I am looking for. I mean they are cool and all but I think its lame to have a hood scoop on a NA car unless it sucks air through one.

Was the GTU-s the only 2nd gen with a scoopless aluminum hood?

Aluminum dents like steel does, its just harder to fix.

when i had a 88 gtu, it also had a scoopless aluminum hood...... so, no..... i think all gtu's had them.........so di convertibles if im correct

is it true that all j-spec t2 hoods were steel...... my best friend had a factory yellow (didnt know yellow was ever a factory color, but it was original paint) one that was steel.... all the writing under the hood was japanese, so i assumed it was j-spec?!?!?!?!

Mods can't ban, and more a hijack than a post in the wrong section.

I don't think anyone has ever been banned for posting in the wrong section.
