Question A few more Hoses, where do they go? Pics to explain.

HI!
Well I almost got my 88' 10th AE done. I just have a few more hoses left to go but I'm a bit confused on exactly where they go? The wires were a pain, now just these few stupid hoses.

Here is a wide shot of my engine, then I'll get to the details.

LEt me add this.... Thank you for helping me! heheh

I don't think I've really introduced myself, but my name is Sam. I got an 88' 10th AE not too long ago for $100. The engine was on a table in pieces. I got brave and bought it and now it's almost ready to go! I'm a poor unemployed student, so I'm doing this thing pretty much as cheap as possible, my first rebuild of a rotary, I feel confident but do need a bit of help!

I'll trade Beers for advice!

Really I've been very impressed with the rotor community here! Maybe if I get this thing running I'll see you at a meet, Sevenstock is coming up!

Re: A few more Hoses, where do they go? Pics to explain.

Ok now here we go,

I have a hose going from the canister on the left side of the engine bay onto some device on the top of manifold (the green arrows), I figure another line should come off of the other connector (red arrow) but I'm not sure where to go to?

Also what is the connecter at the purple arrow? It looks like a water fitting but I'm not sure? I'll get more into this in one sec.

Ok,
Here is a zoomed in pic on top of the manifold. The red arrow is here again, not sure where it goes.

Also in the is water fitting from the last pic (purple arrow).

And also are two hose coming from under the manifold, I'm pretty sure one of them is a water hose, and the other I'm not sure about. I know these two are bigger than the small vacum hose but I don't quite know where they go? I just connected them up and left em' long so I could send them where they needed to be.

Re: Re: Re: A few more Hoses, where do they go? Pics to explain.

Ok that is it for the manifold area,

I've got this weird metal tube with a banjo type fitting on one end and hose fitting on the other. I have the banjo bolt for it but I don't know where it goes? Maybe on the round thing below the turbo and the waste gate actuator? THe bolt I've got fits it, but I figure that the line is either oil or vacum so I'm not sure about it....

Not to sound to picky .. it is your car but; You could have cleaned the engine bay and your parts a bit if you had the whole thing out. It would look a hell of alot better when its complete.

Just my .02

Sorry cant help with the hoses .. I have to kinda be at the car to get a mental picture of that kind of ****.

Only a few more, sorry if I'm being a pain in the ***!

The turbo wase gate actuator, Where does this hose go to? SOme type of pressure sensor, or vacum line?

PS: Rpeck, not too picky I hear ya. But the thing wasn't rusted to **** and the paint was ok, So I'm not worried about dirt, the whole damn car is filthy. If i had the money I would worry about cosmetics, but thanks for your opinon.

OK!

Here we go again...

A shot looking down on the left side of the engine, you can see the oil filter on the left, and the fuel lines on the right.

The green arrow? What the hell is that for?

Next to the fuel line, with the yellow question marks?

I have a fuel send and return, what is the third one for?

On my car a hose goes from your purple arrow to where you have the green arrows pointing to.

That "weird banjo" thing may be for the twin scroll actuator, that's what it looks like to me, but I'm not 100% certain.

Edit: Hose for the red arrow goes to the intercooler.
Running back and forth from car to computer...

Oil fill tube: I believe a hose goes from red to green. I don't think you must have the hose there, but you should plug both.

I can't make out that shot near the filter.
In front of my filter I have three places where hoses go in. The one closest to the front of the car is the fuel line that the fuel filter is on. The next one is a fuel (return?) line. The return line sticks up in the engine bay and its metal except for the last 6" where it goes to the engine. Follow the metal hose in your picture under the car, it may be what I'm talking about. The final one is directly above the last one. It goes to the canister, the part that is furthest on the passanger's side.

For my help I'll take $2 to get me a BJ from Cosmicbutthairs.

Last one! If you made it this far, I worship you! heheh

This last shot is of the Oil filler, The red arrow that is coming of from the oil filler, i don't think I need to worr bout' this one right?

And the green one comes up from all of the metal vacum connections, where does it go?

WHHHHHEEEWWww.... think its bad reading this, its a pain in the *** writing it, and more of a pain racking my head trying to get this damn car running.

Put a small breather filter over that one its the crankcase vent otherwise it goes to through a big black check valve and into the "spider web"

That cylinerder thing on top of the manifold, one hose goes to the IC like you've said. The the hose closest to the passanger's side goes about 2" away near the BAC valve (where your purple arrow points to in your picture). On MY car the hose comming out the bottom of the carchol canister goes straight down and is strapped to the car. It just ends, like it's suppose to drain or something...

Edit: See page 162 of haynes manual. It doesn't show the hose @ the bottom going anywhere.

Free download of the factory service manual at http://www.fc3s.org

1 Green arrows on the hose from the canister: That hose does not go to the canister. TAke it off now and throw it on the floor. Forget about the canister.

2. Weird banjo with tube. That is like the man said, for the switching actuator on the bottom of the turbo. Runs from the switching actuator to one of the many metal tubes at the right rear side of the engine(only one right and only one left on a car or airplane). This tubes VACUUM routing will eventually end up at the GREEN SOLENOID on the left side of the engine. Take the vac hose off the green solenoid, light up a cigar, and blow the smoke into the vac hose. Where the smoke exits, is where that long metal tube will connect. You of course need a short piece of rubber hose to make the connection.

3. The green arrow in the jpg called WATEGATE. That device plugs into the backside of the turbo inlet duct. The large duct from the air filter/afm to the turbo inlet. Its just a hose with a checkvalve on it. It comes from the left side of the engine. Sucks fumes and disposes of them.

Gotta go. It hurts my pumpkin head trying to figure out where the other tit on the air supply valve goes on this engine. You correctly determined one goes to the intercooler. 'The other goes???????On my car it goes to a fitting next to the bac. Feeds air from the air supply valve to the intake manifold.

The red arrow from "Wastegate Actuator.jpg" presses into the stock air inlet (TID) pipe. It just presses in there. Take a look at your TID.

Connect it to the bottom of the turbo? Sounds like fun, I don't have to dissasemble the bastard do I?

Almost got it all done now, but there is still a water outlet pipe on the left side of the engine housing near the spark plugs, not sure where that goes.

I *think* that water outlet has to be for the heater. Goes to the firewall behind the engine, a bit towards the drivers side. Still, it looks too corrosion free to be that. Also in that picture you show a fuel line and have ??? mark next to the line next to it. That should be the fuel return line. Still there is something about the orientation of those line with the oil filter that just does not seem right. Maybe because its a touch different on a 90whatever.

On the tube with the banjo bolt.....just jack the car and get under to attach it.

Did you connect the approx 3.8th inch dia metal tube on the back of the throttle body that is meant for the brake booster?? Can't leave it open or it'll be a big air leak.
