They aren't enforced until someone gives them a reason to do so. For example, someone driving a sub 200HP car that is louder then a 30,000HP jet dragster. If you showed up at my local track with that exhaust, I'd be complaining to the tower in about 20 seconds.

200 bucks you could use toward some coilovers, or a real exhaust

I do not see that actuator for the butterfly lasting all that long when it is subjected to 2300*F, not mention the ensuing flames.

Just curious, when you took the exhaust off, were you still using the factory exhaust manifold or do you actually have a header? Some people don't realize how much the stock mani reduces noise. I ran my 12A open header and with the windows closed it was tolerable til 4k rpms or so. Windows down was worse because of the echo off of objects. Having it pointed out the passenger side will make you ears bleed with the window down from the echo off of objects next to you. Besides if you're looking to race, a properly setup exhaust will yield more power and torque than a dumped exhaust on an NA.

Agreed, velocity and pressure need to be adressed. There are several applications (software) for calculating exhaust velocity versus pressure. NA engines benefit from scavenging, and you want to make that effect most effective at your torque peak, which for most NA's is 3500 rpm.

Corksport's header is a direct replacement for the stock exhaust manifold + the first precat. If you had a test pipe that fits between the catback and the 1st precat, that will bolt right in.

Not many race tracks will be out there will be flagging guys off the track for being 5 or even 10 decibels over the limit. But the amount that you're talking will get you in trouble immediately. That being said, do it.

Thats not your blue s5 vert that you MS painted to demonstrate the side exhaust, is it? Because if you're going to mess up a car's paint so quickly, don't do it to such a good condition RX-7. There are no shortage of $500 running rust machines on this forum begging to be converted to track cars.

Hey im currently building a straight piped exhaust for my N/A Fc3s, 2.5inch from header to the back with a Rotor Shaped muffler from Mazda trix at the end, Also this is my track car so i dont have to worry about police or any of that crap.. but when i first got the car i took off the whole exhaust and only ran the RB header... i couldnt stand driving the car for more then like 10min.. + all the fumes and ****.. but then again its your car have fun and just enjoy it the way you like it!

PA To the original poster

Look at this picture, this is a 900hp plus rotary that runs low 7 second passes on the quarter mile and is turbo(of course)the turbo acts like a muffler and the noise levels go down quite a bit, still the driver has 2 wear ear protection 2 drive the car down the track. In this car this type of system is a most but remember is only driven at the track not on the street so is fine. Now picture your NA with not even 160 HP with a big hole on the fender spiting flames, fuel, smoke ect.ect with just a straight pipe, what are you getting out of that?NOTHING,well maybe the loudest and slower car in town, people is gonna make fun of you,you will get pulled over every day and is gonna get old really fast.Im not trying 2 be a *** but open you eyes and use your money on something else, you drive a rx7 not a civic so please dont turn it into another rice burner.Well at the end is your car do whatever you want 2 it is just my opinion.

I am running a RB header currently, which Im about to butcher up for the project. I wont get pulled over, wont be on streets xcept mountains. you are all addressing issues ive covered already. I know the noise, i know the streetability. Ive driven loud-*** cars daily in the past. not too much difference from what ive owned. fumes will exit on side and low so it wont be in the cabin any more than it is already for a convertible. i already have no cat. so i smell it as is, running open header will get fumes to you worse than a side exit. I just want this thing to sound nasty, and be able to throw it around a few turns. and yes Im working on suspension other than my crappy tein, but this is so cheap, im doin it first. all things will come in time, Im just starting with fun cheap mods first (rims, cooling, intake/exhaust)

its not going to cost money except for the valve, which is still only being contemplated

A little clip. The exhaust is much louder in person, but it'll give you a sense of what the tone of the exhaust is.

With all due respect, it does indeed sound like ***. Maybe larger tubing or something to give it some *****?

Been around rotaries most of my life and you can make it sound good. But that doesn't.

Going over 2.5 inch tubing on an NA is, well....******* stupid. I posted a thread with this very same clip in the pics section and had no negative response, so you are in the minority. A 3 inch pipe may give the sound some *****, but with the sacrifice of torque. I'd rather have my car have a good torque curve than sound pretty and orgasmic. That is with all due respect of course.

The decibel scale is a logarithmic scale. 10 decibels over the limit means ten times more powerful. An extra 20 dB means 100 times more intense.

You could definitely expect a track to enforce 10 dB over the limit. Many road tracks enforce a 100 dB limit, 130+ dB open exhaust is 1000 times more than is allowed.

there are plenty of car stereos that are even louder than that...i guarantee noone will care around the tracks here. I just heard it myself, and its really NOT as rediculously loud as you guys are making it seem. dont get me wrong. it IS loud (really loud), but not louder than some of the obnoxious motorcycles around. it sounds like a dirtbike with no exhaust on it. ive heard other cars on the road that loud before. given; I dont know how long they made it on public roads before getting pulled over, but just making a point. its not even nascar loud, its just an ugly high pitch sound at WOT.

I ran the car with the open manifold for a few minutes while I was replacing the gasket: was pretty ear bleedingly loud. Since it's your toy, do what you want, as long as it's done responsibly. I'd make sure your mod is easily reversible.

So we're done here then?

It's your car and do whatever you want. Even if that means being inconsiderate to everyone else in the world.
