fender exit exhaust pics?

Im thinking about doing this on my 7, now that I have a DD, this will be my track/mountain run car, and although I live in GA I have no emissions, bc I register my car in FL. Yes, I know its going to be rediculously loud and spit a bit of a flame,...so before I get flamed, just want you to know that that not a concern for me. Ive had cut exhausts/sraight pipes on my other cars that were near 100db idling. My question for everyone is: do you have pictures?? Im debating between bringing them out mid fender height or at the bottom of the fender. also need to design a heat shield/surround of some sort, but gotta keep it looking good and original. any pictures that you all have would be greatly appreciated, also taking advice if theres something im not thinking about. Yes i did search, and found maybe 3 threads where its only breifly mentioned. Id like to get a collaborative thread going though on the subject

im thinking positioning like truckosaurus;

SirCygnus 07-25-10 07:22 PM

um.... its not worth it man. it will be "omfg why did i do this" insane loud. way way way way more than 100db.

Understatement of the year.

easy enough to undo though (ive been eyeing new fenders anyways, I'd like to try it out for a bit. Im what most would consider willing and able to try anything once. My 350Z just dumps out of a tapererd (for back pressure ) straight pipe, no cats, mufflers, resonators, or anything. It is loud enought that my Gf will not ride in the car.....ever. that doesnt bother me. And i know rotaries are significantly higher pitch, more annoying, and just plain louder, but this is only an "event" vehicle. Ultimately if i didnt like it, I could create a block off plate or a remote exhaust bypass switch, or convert back to the full exhaust setup again, only thing Id need is a new fender. I do appreciate the input though. I know what Im in for :) its gonna sound like ass,...really loud ass, but I think ill like it...for occasional and appropriate driving.

zracin 07-25-10 08:13 PM

On that note, if anyone has PICS......or ideas...please post

zracin 07-25-10 08:14 PM

SirCygnus, where are you located in ATL, whatre you driving? ill look out for ya. not too many of us around

just startn 07-25-10 08:34 PM

i ran open dp, side exit, open exhaust housing on turbo, umm pretty much anything. its really not that loud. i mean it is a little loud but these are all on turbo cars so its not quite as loud as N/A...i think N/A would be crazy loud

K-Tune 07-25-10 08:37 PM

please don't do this to your car.

Shut your whore mouth... lol

I wouldn't describe it as sounding like ass, more less super aggressive. If its a track car, why not? It'd be so badass!

There was a 13B Peripheral ported turbo starlet with a straight side exhaust that I seen dragging, I was standing about 20' away from it when he was doing a burnout and I honestly have never heard anything that loud in my life.

jjwalker 07-25-10 09:31 PM

I have straight pipes out the back on my NA and it is SUPER FUCKING LOUD. Like, window shatteringly loud. It does not however sound like ass.

A little clip. The exhaust is much louder in person, but it'll give you a sense of what the tone of the exhaust is.

Yea but I mean.... right there, basically right outside the driver's windows. I love a rotary tone, but I don't know if I could deal with it. I'd like to hear a sound clip if you do it though :D.

clokker 07-25-10 10:16 PM

Outside of being excruciatingly loud, what performance benefit do you see from this?

Catching your passengers on fire; everyone passing out from rotary fumes; pretty flames?

Because tracks have decibel limits an open exhaust rotary will shatter at idle. Side exhaust is cool, if you find a way to muffle it.

Still have air injection, it burns off inside the pipe instead of outside.

zracin 07-26-10 06:55 PM

all those videos of rediculously large flames are from turbos, or really lean NAs, oh yeah, and carburated ones like that vid posted

+1

But if you're committed to this, put it below the trim. Above just looks tacky to me and the exhaust will all get sucked into the window.
