Feelin bad....and curious

Yea on my way home I saw a fellow 7 driver and his car had broken down. I stopped to help him because I felt bad and I got curious to what his car had, if it was stock or hooked up, I knew it was an S4 by the tails. When I got there he told me he had a clutch problem, by the way he described it I knew his clutch pump was gone so I told him about either rebuilding it or replacing it. The next problem stumped me though. I wanted to post it because I want to know how to fix it incase it ever happens to me. Alright here it is. The car starts, he revved it up abit but then the car just died. I dont know what that was, and Im real curious as to find out what it is. We tried some stuff that I thought could have been it but i was wrong. I helped him and his friend push the car to the Publix parking lot nearby. I hope he gets it fixed. Well thats all...

it could be a number of things. That's not enough information to diagnose the problem. I have had my car die because of a bad battery, bad alternator, vacuum leaks, bad idle adjustment, etc. It could also be low compression while hot, fuel starvation, air starvation, no spark, bad spark, etc. etc.

Yea i know, the car idles for a few seconds then juss dies. I was thinking it was either fuel or air starvation or vacuum leaks, I didnt mention vacuum leaks to him cause I dont know much about them so i dont know how to diagnose them yet. The battery and alternator was not it because I've had a bad battery and a bad alternator(not at the same time) and the car would run, it would be a bitch to get it on though, but it would stay on and maintain idle.

Get more information, coudl be a blown engine, a bad something, a pulled off vac. hose, a bad rotogirder, who knows. you need a little more information.

but props to you for helping out a random 7 driver. that's very respectable.

it could still be a bad alternator. if the battery has dishcarged then the car may start then die a few seconds later. I just had this happen to me only a month ago.

check the car with a multimeter at idle and see how many volts it is throwing.

Cool

If he's got the usual down to about half gas gauge then empty, throw a gallon of gas in it and see if it fires up. What you described as symptoms, sure sounds like, out of gas, out of gas!!
